Ok What is Timing of a Brake?

Re: Ok What is Timing of a Brake?

timing a brake is when the smith "times" the brake with the threads of the barrel until the brake is perfectly aligned. a timed brake does not require a crush washer nor shims.

Re: Ok What is Timing of a Brake?

Basically what zinny said.

Because muzzle brakes usually have specific blast ports/baffles that must point at a certain angle/direction in order for them to work properly to reduce recoil and/or muzzle climb, you have to ensure that the TDC of the brake is even with the TDC of the barrel. This can be accomplished by several methods, including modifying the brake itself so that it lines up, modifying the barrel so that the brake lines up, or using crush or peel washers to align it.
