Holy crap...when you spend $1800 on a scope, I guess $41 of that money is for the box. The box and papers for my NXS 5.5-22x50 got "lost" during housecleaning. I called NF and they wanted $30 for the box and $11 to ship it. I was gonna go for the $30 and was getting my credit card out but when he said "and $11 to ship" I thought thats just freaking crazy to spend $41 on a box (unless it has a bottle of Crown in it lol).

Im just a picky guy. I TRY to keep all boxes and paperwork on gun related stuff. Sometimes it makes a difference when its time to sell. I would much rather buy a used scope packed in the original box with the instructions etc that something that is bubble wrapped and stuffed in a flat rate box.

Re: One expensive cardboard box...Thanks Nightforce

I know what you mean about boxes . Had to get one for my lesbaer
1911 but it was cheaper , but still a cheap brown cardboard box with a lable

Re: One expensive cardboard box...Thanks Nightforce

You spent $1800 for a scope?? And lost the box?? And they would not send you one for free?? They wanted $41?? WOW. That speaks volumes!!

I always keep the original boxes for my optics, and about anything else of value that I own. But $41?? WOW!! Tom.

Re: One expensive cardboard box...Thanks Nightforce

I know it sounds crazy by I know for a fact that the box will make a big difference if you ever sell the scope. Same goes for a rifle. $41 is a ripoff for sure but you will recoup that easily if you sell.

And that a big reason I try to keep that stuff around.
Any box haters... send em my way lol

Re: One expensive cardboard box...Thanks Nightforce

If some tard tried using the lack of a box, as leverage when I'm selling one of my smitty's or premiers, I'd laugh. Both boxes are about as generic as they come. Guess I could use one of my extra Baseball card storage boxes I have laying around...and a few stickers. Probably not get posted gtg in the "Good" guy list though...

If you want a quality box, then purchase one of these bad boys.,,

Re: One expensive cardboard box...Thanks Nightforce

When I lived in Georgia I did a lot of gun trading with one of the biggest gun dealers in the state. He told me that he allowed 5%-10% more trade value for anything if it had it's original box. That is what I have seen way more times than not in my selling and trading. If you are never going to sell or trade then it is a moot point.

As Joey would say, "a moo point".

Re: One expensive cardboard box...Thanks Nightforce

You know what I hate? Elaborate and horribly non-functional boxes. Like Springfield, with their whole "shooter's kit" in the giant box. Why would I want a hard case that holds a pistol, a crappy holster and a crappy magazine pouch? I would gladly give that up to save $30 on the gun.

Still, my pistol cases get saved for exactly the aforementioned reason. With the exception of a couple properly-executed case designs, they never get used again.

Also, I like turtles.

Re: One expensive cardboard box...Thanks Nightforce

That does seem exorbitant, especially for some one who just dropped that kind of coin on their product.

I am the same way though, I like to have the boxes things come in.

I would probably ask around here for someone who is tossing one, or call NF and try to get them to help you out.

Re: One expensive cardboard box...Thanks Nightforce

I use to save all my boxes untill I moved and had them stored at my dads house and told him to use one to ship a gun for me, and he said I got rid of them they were in my way. I was only gone a month.

Re: One expensive cardboard box...Thanks Nightforce

As strange as it may sound, a nice looking original box will quite often get you a bit extra on the sale of your items or make yours sell before another similarly price item.

Human nature I guess, but it's hard to argue with the results.

I'll sell you one of mine for $29...

Re: One expensive cardboard box...Thanks Nightforce

$11? That sucks. I want to order a rifle sling and the co. wants $12 to ship it! The thing weighs less than half a pound! Put it in a $4.95 USPS flat-rate box fer chrissake! I didn't buy.

Hahahahahaha I see what you did there...

Re: One expensive cardboard box...Thanks Nightforce

And this is why the gun/shooting community and the fine members here on the Hide are no.1 in my book. A fellow member has offered to send me a box, paperwork etc for the low low price of nothing. He wouldnt even take anything for shipping!
Thanks rwest. BTW... I wonder if that $41 box would fit in NFs salesmans ass?
