Maggie’s one of those 'stupid things at the range' stories

At the range yesterday with the wife; she usually goes every few years just to show she supports my hobby but is clearly not a gun person.

Anyway, next to us on the 100 yard range is a guy with a girl he's clearly trying to impress with his AR build. Looks like he's spent quite a lot of time at 'cheaper than dirt' finding everything you can bolt onto a rail and about $1500 in optics. Lots of accessories might be OK, but when I noticed that he had two rear pop-up backup iron sights I started to suspect mall ninja (unless running a rear sight in the front is how it's done now and I'm the clueless one).

When we walk up to check targets, and his looks like it was hit with a shotgun. 20" group maybe? Hard to say since the target stands are only so wide. Lots of holes though.

Back at the bench while he's still changing targets my wife says "even I know that guy is an idiot". I ask why she thinks that, and she says:

"he told his woman that his gun is only accurate to 50 yards and they need to change lanes, and that your gun is more accurate because it's shooting bigger bullets. that's why your target looks better."

So there you go black rifle fans, they're only accurate to 50 yards and you can be out-shot by a Lyman flintlock because it's using 50 cal round ball.

Perfect closer man, thanks for the laugh!

To be fair though, my flinter isn't 100% stock, I've got a PCOG on it (that's Primitive Combat Optic Gunsight):

Maybe I should mount a candle on the front too for period correct low light ops?

I've never had real good luck combining candles & flint locks myself, but good luck to you

One of the guys in my platoon put two grip pod foregrips on his M16. One for stability and one for handling. No amount of ridicule would convince him to take them off. Maybe this guy was his brother or something.
