One Second After set in Black Mountain, NC...

The author is from there, so setting his books’ plots there is unsurprising. It’s also home to Nicholas Sparks, the guy that sentenced so many innocent men to the torture of watching “The Notebook” at the hands of some woman’s pants we wanted into. That makes me a bit iffy on whether it’s a literary hub of prophecy, or if an evil portal to hell is based in that town.

There is an audio book for "One Second After" on Youtube. Im not a fiction reader, nor did I ever listen to Audio books. This audio book set the bar too high!

I cant believe we have people on this site that have never read the book! Again, not a fiction reader, but fantastic Audio book!

A bit of a spoiler, but in the third or fourth book, turns out the Fed. Govt. knew about everything beforehand and said fuck all the peasants.
The first book was unbelievably good…very gripping story too.

I actually really didn’t like the second book, but will read it again. Third book was better, but just OK for me.

Honestly don’t recall book 4; may not have read it now that I think about it. Edit: but just checked, and I own it. Probably a good opportunity to re-read the series.

Turns out that is usually the way with the alphabet soup in DC. December 7, ‘41 was less of a surprise than the history books would tell us. 9/11 is the same. If and when it all blows up (could be any day now) absolutely no one but a fool would believe it was completely unexpected.

This country was built precisely because when problems arose we didn't break down to tribalism and feudalism. All the social engineering over the last 15-20 years has been quite contrary to that culture of communities pulling together and working to build a better place to live or working to rebuild after a disaster.

The third book was mid at best and the fourth book was terrible.

First two are totally worth a read for fans of dystopian disaster porn, and I also liked the author's "48 Hours" (a scenario that makes HAEMP seem like a pleasant day at the park).

I agree - very much enjoyed the first two. The third and fourth felt like forced work - the publisher wanted more, so Forstchen threw them together haphazardly.

This is very, very insightful…and unfortunately also very true.
