I recently finished reading "One Second After" by William Forstchen. The book was published earlier this year and Warner Bros. has picked up the rights to make the movie.

"One Second After" is an apocolyptic thriller that is all too likely. The story plays out in a small NC town, but the scenario is a well executed EMP attack on the US that basically wipes out our entire infrastructure and indirectly kills most Americans. I found it scary and disturbing to read because both the threat and our vulnerability to such attacks are very real.

I recommend this book not only because it is a well written story, but because the subject matter is very compelling.

See http://www.empcommission.org/docs/A2473-EMP_Commission-7MB.pdf for more EMP info. This is actually scarier than the book.

I've read it too. I'm not an expert on EMP, so I can't speak to exactly how realistic everything in the book is, but I did enjoy reading it, and it does make one think about various aspects of being prepared for emergencies.

Actually watched a show on history channel - during hte 60's when we did upper atmospheric nuclear testing they were wiping satellites out left and right and the radiation pattern was something like 6 miles long - killed every satellite it hit for like 36 hrs.

But they said one SINGLE nuke detonated mid America at 300,000 feet would pretty much kill any power grid, satellites, you name it.

I'd be interested to read this.
