OpenAI Shuts Down Developer Who Made AI-Powered Gun Turret

It's getting interesting out there.

Yup!

That eventuality may be inevitable at this point. But I was thinking more of home/area defense applications with auto targeting. Sentry turrets are easy enough for me to build in my machine shop, and rotary encoders/stepper motors are industrial lego at this point. The hard part has always been the operating/targeting system.

This article is about a guy who used chat gpt (kinda stupid), but private AI are a thing now. My BIL built a decently powerful one and has it running on one of my backup servers. Had a productive conversation with him yesterday about implementing this type of turret control function. Came up with a decent plan to train it for friend/foe and target acquisition (NV, IR, thermal, etc).

While building an armed auto turret may be against the law, building a turret mounted camera with auto tracking/shooting isn't. Then, if the law were to stop being applicable (SHTF scenario), arming it would be a 10min project. Just sayin....

Damn, it never ceases to amaze me of all the amazing talent / knowledge up in here, ya hear? 👍
If it could be pooled / put together ,well, no telling what could be accomplished, if all could see eye to eye.

Comparing my knowledge/ ability to others......... Only thing I could offer is a tad of dixie common sense ,along with the ability to operate heavy machinery, fly an ultralight airplane , rig a tow for a towboat ( a towboat pushes ,a tugboat pulls , just to be clear)( not physically able anymore ) and hit "targets" ...umm ,on out dar.

That’s a good idea. I’m too lazy to implement something like this in real time but I have some thoughts:
- buy a bunch of cameras and create a perimeter around the property.
- Custom development. Javascript, raspberry pi OS, and Matlab - integration with the cameras.
- Javascript for camera scanning and database communication. Raspberry pi OS device in home for the owner to manually control and override functionality. Matlab algorithms to establish virtual network communication between the firearms and cameras.
Budget would probably be $50,000 if you went with mid tier ARs.
(or)
Just plant a bunch of homemade remote controlled landmines around your property 😂

Edit: If you do come up with even a well documented theory for such a solid home-defense system, patent that bitch.
