In the fine southern tradition, tomorrow is opening day. Dove season kicks off the start of a new year of hunting.

There ain't nothin' finer, than to be humiliated in Carolina, by a scarcely 1 lb gray flying kamikaze.

Here's what they look like, when there not flying by at 50 MPH:

And here's what they look like when, by chance alone, they blunder into your shot stream:

I can almost smell the roast pig, sweet tea, corn, boiled potatoes as a prelude to the sweet fragrance of spent shot shells, lying in piles at my feet.

Heat, sweat, bugs and frustration, I can't wait till noon tomorrow. My 20 ga SxS, and four boxes of #8's to bag a slim meal of 15 feathered fools......

Used to love/hate shooting the dove in Arizona near Yuma. Funniest thing I ever saw was a dove fly by 9 Marines and leave with hardly a feather left. Good luck and have fun.

Can't wait for it. Sounds like a good meal you have planned there to open the festivities.

My first dove hunting experience was last year - ended up being some of my favorite game!

In commifornia its Sep. First. And our bag limit is 10 a day 20 in pos. To bad I don't have a good place to dove hunt anymore. So sad, my two oldest boys just got there licence and are asking when can we go dove hunting.

    Re: Opening Day

Yes we can. I am still alive and well. I don't want to get shot by some asshat that can't control the weapon or trigger finger. So I look for proverbial property to hunt. It's hard to get a land owner to let you hunt there property. I even offer to fix up there place, mend fence and gates, water lines and well houses and such. No dice for the most part.

The North Zone in Texas kicked off yesterday. I took out my 4 year old daughter for her first hunt in the afternoon. It was really hot, but we actually scratched out a 2/3 limit. She had fun which was the main thing. She figured it out pretty quick and when I got bored and dazed off she was telling me when the dove would head our way! I was a proud papa. Now if I can just get her to go pick them up for me I will be set, lol.
