Gunsmithing Opening up barrel channel on B&C stock

So I got a new B&C Light Tactical stock to replace my H-S stock. I went to slap it on tonight and the barrel channel is to small and my heavy ass barrel won't drop all the way into the channel. What's the best way to open it up without it being a total hack job?

1" Dowel,100 grit sandpaper, and lots of elbow grease.
