What’s your opinion regarding the 13’’ Adjustable Bore Savers from Dewey? I know that Lucas is the best. But I was in a gun shop and saw this bore guide for $24. The quality and the design looked fine. Before I start using it on my 308 Savage 10 FP with my Dewey rod, I want to make sure that I won’t regret the Lucas bore guide.

Thanks for your input,
Kevin

in that case, the lucas comes with a slip in insert. this insert is made especially for the type of cleaning rod your using/plan to use. you need to specify the rod when you oder to get the right insert.

it keeps the rod centered in the bore, and centered as the jag and rod exits the muzzle. making contact and wear less likely at the crown.

Re: Opinion on Dewey bore guides

But Dewey bore guide seems to do the same thing (supplied with 4 extra o-rings and assembly tool)

Let me ask this differently….
Everybody agrees that Lucas is better . But it’s more expensive and less available.
Is this Dewey bore guide is a good enough product to keep (it’s cheaper and I already have it)? But I don’t want to open the box if people have had a bad experience with this.

.

The really best bore guide is the T.K. Nollan barrel saver.
And it is, by far, the most expensive!

I own 2 Lucas bore guide and like them. They are excelent!

all bore guides do the same thing.. they guide a rod into the bore. after that you and the rod are on your own. you'll get the rod bowing and your not pushing in exactly straight in.

the lucas comes with an insert like i said before, it helps guide the rod center every time you push on it. reducing the chance of bowing the rod and scraping up the bore.

Re: Opinion on Dewey bore guides

I use Russ Haydon's bore guide. It's available at Russ Haydon's Shooter's Supply. It comes caliber specific with the O-ring to keep solvents out of your bore.

But that's how you get the bore clean...?

I meant to say breech.

Re: Opinion on Dewey bore guides

I cleaned my guns with an Otis kit for years and never used a rod until recently. I don't think there is much of a difference, just clean your gun well, don't use so much solvent that it drips everywhere. A bore guide that fits and is a material softer than your bore or chamber is what you need. Don't bow your rod and apply straight pressure.

Spend your money and quality bullets and reloading equipment instead.

Oh, and don't forgot to get out and shoot.

Re: Opinion on Dewey bore guides

Can you use a Rem 700LA Lucas guide in a 700SA? I'm assuming the length would be the only difference.

Sorry for the threadjack, just wondering.
