My findings, so far; for the ones interested...Zeroed Mark 8/H58/TRG22 at 100 meters; not so easy to shoot a real "one holer" as the reticle is covering the initial first shot hole, so not the best reticle for "surgical" shots close up. You can still shoot a "respectable" group but many thinner reticles will be a far better choice for stacking your bullets on top of each others at 100 meters/yards. On the other hand, if your shooting style is to have an "impact", "put the target down" or if you are fine going for the eye rather than just the pupil, then H58 does the job.
At 200 meters, .5 mil elevation, shooting at 3" Birchwood Casey Shoot-N-C Target; tried different magnifications before shooting but felt most comfortable with max magnification (x25). Sent two 3 shots groups, sorry not 5 or 10, was limited in ammo and the 2 groups were each just over an inch wide. Because of the thickness of the reticle, didn't know what to expect. The fact that the thickness of the reticle did not really affect the accuracy was a nice surprise but it for sure felt different.
Talking about reticle thickness; at 200 meters, it looked like the H58 at x25 covered about an inch wide, so it would cover about 5" at 1000 meters. Will do this next week and will post how it went...for the ones interested.
A word on the Mark 8 itself, IMHO, yes the clicks on the elevation turret felt a bit mushy, especially the first 5 clicks but it wasn't that bad (I am not a difficult customer); the windage turret was better but there is definitely room for improvement. The pinch turrets, well...there are pros and cons.
Funny that dinmax82 mentioned the Vortex Razor, as the day before, I was at the same range, zeroing a new Vortex Razor Gen 2, EBR-2C reticle, on a TRG 42 338 LM; also shot it at 100 and 200 meters. The clicks are much more positive on the Razor and the EBR-2C is, in my opinion, a great reticle. As far as glass clarity, the Razor is great but I felt the Leupold had a slightly superior glass quality, compared to the Vortex, as the bullet holes at 200 meters looked more crisp and clear through the Mark 8.
reubenski, I have never used or looked through a scope equipped with the H59, or any of the Tremor reticles but for sure would like to. So far the H58 is not bad, I would say good in a more "tactical" aspect, as it would be unlikely to "lose" the crosshair because the target is passing in front of a dark area; that's where that thick reticle could be preferable to a much thinner one.
Thanks for everyone's input.
