Opinions on the CZ 600 ST2 Range from owners and people who have shot it please.

First, hello.

New user to the forum, but have known of it for a good while, not new to firearms, prior service, husband and a dad, and friends with an older fellow veteran with a lot of land to practice on Pretty decent with a pistol, not bad with a rifle, trying to go from decent to quite good.

So I got into a more precision oriented type of shooting a couple years ago with a longer range bolt action .22LR setup. At distance though boy does the wind take it's toll.... And I want to shoot small groups at distance to try to hit small targets. My friend only has MAX 600 yards of range, more realistically 500 is pushing it, but again I want to shoot small targets. I'm also not made of money with a mortgage, 3 kids, etc. My friend lets call him O.D.D (Old Devil Dog) has been building and buying $$$ air rifles, and building Remington 700 clone auctioned rifles as of late and while I thought my .22 was not bad, his well it's not a Vudoo rifle but probably not a real far trip from as nice as one. I don't have that kind of coin but want to put up a challenge and noticed the CZ 600 Range.

Some seem to view the CZ 600 series as a failure it seems due to the recall and dropping the user changeable barrels, but personally that doesn't bother me a bit other than it looks like there's a drop in interest of the rifles which is a concern for longer term support from the aftermarket and CZ themselves. However from what I have seen, what the rifle offers out of the box for the price tag seems pretty incredible frankly. If I could have it my way the barrel would be 2" shorter and a little thicker but other than that I don't know of anything I would want to change. And given to me the purchase cost of $1250 is not a small amount of money though I know for a precision style rifle that's "cheap". I wanted to post somewhere that's more focused on say tight groups at longer ranges with higher marksmanship interest than say, AR15.com and get the collectives opinion before I pull the metaphorical trigger on the purchase, as IF I purchase it, I'll be ordering about 3 loads of match 175gr, rings and a decent piece of higher powered glass for it right away after cleaning....

Thank you for taking the time to read, please respond if you have experience with a CZ 600, especially if it's the Range model. (or just seeing groups from other shooters in person who you feel are capable marksmen)

I got the cz 600 alpha and Range. The Range is in 308. It's shoots the 168 federal match kings and the Normal golden target Match moa and under from a bench . This is off a bipod and rear bag. I love shooting it . The stock works great for the way I shoot. I like the butt hook even though it looks a little weird. It works

And there's really nowhere to get any aftermarket help because like you said everyone rejected them after recall.

I did get a Boyds stock for my alpha which was a big improvement over the stock they come with.

The cz 600 range is better then the alpha probably because of the thicker barrel and the weight of it.

All said I just bought a Howa in 308 from Brownells and put it in a krg bravo stock and this is better then both czs.

I don't have experience with the CZ 600 directly, but do have experience with other CZ bolt guns. There isn't much aftermarket support for the platform, but I would ask if it is necessary if you are planning to shoot the rifle in stock configuration.

That being said I have always had good luck with CZ's barrels being quite accurate even though they are hammer forged. All of mine have had good stock triggers too.

Sorry that is the best I can offer. I would consider getting one, they are running some specials and rebates on them that are very good too.

I don’t have the 600. I have owned two CZ 550 and a 527. Good field rifles.

I’d rather have a Tilka T3 since CZ has quit making the small frame actions.

I assume you mean short actions? Also that’s concerning because I did order the 600 Range this morning….paid $1170 at my local store so a couple dollars lower than Buds even.


Best I recall they had the rifle in a .223Rem chambering also, I mention that since you said small frame actions were discontinued. Or do you mean they’re using oversized actions for limited smaller bore calibers or something? I personally tend to see that as a pro unless weight is an issue.

CZ used to make a micro action for the 223 and 7.65x39 size cartridges. A very good woods walking rifle. I wish I had gotten a few different calibers in the handy 527 carbine.

For woods walking I cut weight wherever I can; helps reduce fatigue and improve the hunt.

I wish I had heard this prior to ordering, BUT I do know there’s an MDT chassis if I’m not happy with it. And could probably have a smith shorten the barrel to 20”, re-thread and send off for cryogenic treatment if I don’t see an aftermarket barrel to go for, if need be. Since I hand load I have that as an option for trying to find a load it loves.
