Re: opinions on this Leupold Mark4 6-5-20x50 scope???
I have one with m5 turrets and TMR reticle. I just can't own a scope where turrets and reticles don't match. I LOVE the TMR reticle - the little open spot in the crosshares is awesome. The glass is crystal, crystal clear around center, but i found i had to refocus slightly to clearly see and measure hits using the .2 mil hash marks at the edge of the reticle.
The only real downside, and this may just be with the ffp model like i have, is that eye relief is pretty critical, and changes quite drastically from 6.5x to 20x, like so bad that when i set the scope up i did so at 6.5x. When i went to the range and set it to 20 i couldn't even see through the scope. I had to scoot so far forward that it felt awkward.
Like i said, this could only be a ffp thing. But the down side to the Leupold is the only way to get the m5(the only turrets that match the reticle) turrets is to move up to the ffp model. I just can't bring myself to ever own a mil-based reticle with MOA turrets...
Many will say the loopys are pricey for what you get. I'm not so sure. I paid like $1600 for mine and i believe i paid $1700 for my nightforce and it wasn't ffp, and the loopy has better glass - at least mine does.
Not sure why the amount of internal travel is a problem for some. That's what canted scope bases are for...
And turrets can easily be marked to keep count and shims can easily be added under the turret for zero stop.
