Rifle Scopes Optical and mechanical center of scope

Do any of you have any methods to optically center a scopes reticle? I have a couple scopes i would like to set back to center but cant remember how. I know mechanically i can just count off the clicks but some of them dont have a solid end point (read cheap). I would also accomplish what i want to with an optical center as well. It also will make remounting the optic on a differet rifle less of a hassle.

I think i remember reading something about using a mirror but i dont see where you would get enough light to do that. I know this may sound like a joke but it is a real question.
