Hello all,

Long time lurker, first time poster.

Any optics and accessories suggestions for POF P-308-16-MRR-308 RECON? This will be my SHTF go to gun. I am looking for something that could fill a CQB / Medium engagement role. I am not opposed to an ACOG / EOTech / traditional glass rifle scopes. In other words I am keeping my options open. Price of equipment is not limited.

Try using the Sniper's Hide Google Search Engine found here:

There are numerous people here (me included) running POF P-308 rifles and carbines. Everybody has their own ideas and opinions as to what is best in terms of optics choices for these (or any) rifles, but only YOU will be able to determine what is best for your particular purposes. The best advice I can give you is to look at all of the different options you can and determine what you like best and what best fills the role you need to fill.

One word of caution on the ACOGs with the P-308's...given the height of many ACOGs/mounts, combined with the highter POF monolithic top rail, you can end up with a VERY high optic that doesn't permit a good cheekweld (you get more of a chinweld) depending on your body type.

Finally, while I realize this is an optics-related question, you may find more help in the semi-auto forum after you have had a chance to read through some of the many posts on the P-308.

Im thinking of getting a POF, and when I do, that new S&B 1-8 is going on it, when it comes out. Its good for CQB and right now, im comfortable shooting 600 yds with 8x.

Re: Optics and accessories for POF P-308 RECON

I've used the Trijicon TR21, the TA33 ACOG, the IOR 1.1-4X, the IOR 1.5-8X and the IOR 3,5-18 on mine, depending on application.
They have + and -, most of which are very subjective. I've not found my perfect all round scope yet, so I won't tell you which yours is....
As mentioned above, the ACOG is usable but it does sit high, and that combined with it's relatively small eyebox means you're not going to get the best cheekweld...probably my least fave optic as it's applications are, for me, the most limited.

I like the TR21, the TR24 is better, great for daytime, both-eyes-open CQB.

The IOR 1.5-8 is great, good glass and a very usable power range. The BDC reticule is clear, but marked for 5.56, however, find your load and note the POI at each range and you can fudge it.

The IOR 3.5-18 is my bench scope, big, heavy, beautiful.

USO 1.8-10 in a QD Bobro mount with BUIS. Enough glass for in close and out to the effective range of the gun and the ability to take it off quickly if you need to do it. I have an ST-10 on mine set up for long distance and hunting so I have no need for BUIS or lower mag.

If and when I pick up a POF I’m going to put IOR's 1.5-8 on it. Apparently the newer one had an exposed turret that is calibrated for .308. It would be a perfect scope if they would make it FFP with a CQB version of the MP-8 and mil adjustments.
