Hey guys, I'm just finishing my Mk12 build and the only thing left is the optics and mount. I have it narrowed down between the Leupold Mark 4 MR/T 2.5-8 or the Nightforce NXS 2.5-10. I was just looking for some words of wisdom from anybody with first hand experience with these two scopes. Thanks

Re: Optics For MK12 mod 1

Do yourself a favor and go with either the Leupold Mark 4 3.5-10 (not 2.5-8) or the Nightforce 2.5-10. I own both and think they are both [far] superior to the Leupold 2.5-8. If you shoot a lot of groups the adjustable parallax on the Leupold will come in handy. If you are going to be twisting knobs the zero stop on the nightforce will come in handy (screwed myself out of 3rd place today by not not remembering how many turns I put on my windage). If you get the mil/le discount the Leupold 3.5-10 FFP M5 is hard to beat, if not buy whichever you can get a better deal on but don't skimp on the Nightforce zero-stop turrets.

Re: Optics For MK12 mod 1

Actually believe it or not the leupold knobs have zero stops. All except the M1s. lwrkeysfisher why is the 2.5-8x36mm so bad? I had settled on that for my optic to get for my MK12 Mod 1. What don't you like about it?

The NEW Mark 4s with the M3 knobs have zero stops.
It was a contract requirement.

FWIW,
My choice is the Mark 4 3.5-10x40mm LR/T M3 Front Focal with the TMR reticle.

Quite a bit of bang for your buck and the only down side is a couple ounces.
If the 1 MOA elevation adjustments scare you, they can be converted by the Leupold custom shop.
For an SPR setup though I have come to like the 1 MOA adjustments.
It is also easy to just use half a click if a more fine adjustment is necessary.
(The windage adjustments are in 1/2 MOA)

I felt like I was looking through a soda straw when using it at 8X. The image is not nearly as crisp as the 3.5-10 or the Nightforce. I'm not saying it won't work, just that these others are a lot better to my eyes. In the end it's a judgment call; the extra weight and size didn't bother me, so I moved up and am very happy I did.

No Leupold of mine has zero stops, they do have the little horizontal lines so that you can log/memorize where your zero is and return to it though. IMO this is not as fast as a zero stop, but I wouldn't have been a full turn off in my match yesterday.

Thats why i said they have zero stop. I know the M2 and M3 have zero stop for sure. I also read the M5 has zero stop.

The m2 has a ball bearing zero stop on a Detent spring from what i understood, and the M3 only has on revolution.

Perhaps the new stuff according to lowlight

That'd be nice. The brand new m5 I handled didn't, unless I missed something.

I've read of "shim like" zero stops for the M5s search around and you'll find some people that have it i think.
