Looking to buy a 6.5 CR barrel for my RPR. What’s the optimal twist rate. I have read 1-8 and 1-8.5. Most likely will end up shooting 143 ELD or 147 ELD due to the Hugh BC.

8 twist for 147 ELD Match. 7 or 7.5 if you want to shoot the 150 Sierra.
7 or 7.5 would probably also work for the ELD so that may be the way to go.

Thanks. Yeah between twist rate and trying to decide what Barrel brand I’m going with I’m going mad. Been trying to decide for the past couple weeks.
As soon as I have my mind made up I read something that takes me back to square one.
Can’t go wrong with Bartlein. I would ask you GS what he thinks. If you are too undecided, I would just go with 7.5 so you can shoot the heavies if you want.
I shoot the 147 out of a 26” Bartlein with 8 twist to 2k regularly. It works great. Wish I had a faster twist though so I could give the 150s a try. I could probably stabilize them enough but why bother at this point when I’m 1000 rounds away from shooting out my barrel and the 147s are working fine.
I’ll probably rebarrel to a 6.5PRC with a 7 twist when it’s time.
Don’t forget about solids too. You need a lot of twist if you plan to shoot them.

How many rounds you got down your barrel? Have not looked at 6.5 PRC much, I thought it was for a long action?
