I finally decided to give the Semi-Auto a try and see how they perform. Yes...I spoke to George about get a new GAP to go with the other bolt action ones I have but the wife made me trade my FNAR and George wouldn't take it on trade. I even explained to George how it was a "special" FNAR that would shoot .5 MOA at 1000 yard but he wouldn't bite. I will eventually send this one down to him to have re-calibrated!!lol (Sorry Henry..couldn't resist!!lol)

Anyway, I plan on shooting both FGMM 175 and Hornady Superperforance 178s to see how each does. Has anyone had luck with some less expensive ammo for these? I hand load for all my other rifles but I wouldn't mind having some "plinking ammo" around.

Re: Ordered a new Armalite SASS

I will search for some pricing on it to see how it compares. I have no experience with the Armalite but I plan on getting it to the range as soon as it gets here. I have an extra USO T-Pal I can throw on it to stretch it out.

Re: Ordered a new Armalite SASS

Good luck with your SASS. Mine is very load pickey. It likes my hand loads with the 175 SMK and it shoots the FGMM 168s well. Most other loads open up past the 1" mark. Do yourself a favor and replace the trigger or have a clean up and spring job done to the factory one. My trigger was reworked with new springs and a hi-speed hammer job; now it breaks at 2.5 lbs clean and crisp.

Re: Ordered a new Armalite SASS

I will order a new trigger group for it. I still have about 300 rounds of the 168 tap ammo so maybe I can get that to group. It appears it will be here on Friday so should be able to take it out Saturday for a test.

I will have to do some research on the trigger group. Need one that just drops in.

Re: Ordered a new Armalite SASS

I have a Timney in my POF SPR and a Geissele high-speed DMR that I put in my LR308. For what it's worth I think the Geissele is a fantastic trigger for precision work and I couldn't be happier with it. I know you said you wanted a "drop in" style but honestly this trigger group was pretty easy put in and adjust even for a guy that hadn't gotten that deep into the fire control group before. Now I'm sure we all agree that these two triggers are pricey but the price between the two is negligable and in my opinion you'll be much happier with the Geissele.

My experience is limited to these two aftermarket triggers so this post is inherently lacking...do with it what you will sir!

Re: Ordered a new Armalite SASS

I have a Armalite SASS, did you know that this trigger is user adjustable? look on Armalite's web site under the SASS tec bulletin, download and you will see that with adjustment it will be much better. then you can buy more ammo with the savings and break it in even further.
