Can anyone tell me what the Osprey scopes are like and how they rank. I am one that feels I get what i pay for and have been getting the Nightforce scopes, I have some Nikon and a few others that are higher priced but Im sick of paying so much BUT i know that Nightforce is great. I just want a scope that will do fine for just the fun days at the range. I have a super sniper that I just traded for and it really seems nice but I have an offer for a new osprey but what do you guys think of it?

Re: Osprey Scopes

i Have two ospreys. A 2.5x and the 3-9X with a calibrated turret for 55grain .223. Picked them up at a gun show. So far i like them, for what they are. If its a fun gun then go ahead. If its a serious shooter move on. but for the price i paid 60, 160 respectively, I would look at Vortex.

Re: Osprey Scopes

Same Chinese scope as the rest of them. Probably from the same plant. I put the quality in with BSA, NCStar, etc.

IMHO the old 10x Super Sniper is still several tiers above the Ospreys that I have looked at. The Ospreys have more "features" like reticles that you have no idea how to use. But I would also bet they feature wandering clicks and poor repeatability.

If you need a "cheap" scope, then go with a 6-24x50mm 1" Vortex Crossfire from SWFA. The Crossfire is still an import scope, but it's decently made and backed by an awesome warranty. I put one on my 40XB right now because I can't afford a top end optic for that platform at this point.

Re: Osprey Scopes

Not again!!!!! looked at these scopes several years ago at gun show, almost as good as looking through a fishbowl, was really shocked to see hoards of people buying them.

Re: Osprey Scopes

Take LoneWolf's advice and buy the Vortex Crossfire OR pay a bit more for the Viper 6.5~20x50 scope with target dot reticle that SWAFA, Camera Land and others are selling for $280. It's a $550 scope being discontinued but still carries the unconditional lifetime warranty. I have one and am impressed with it. Either Vortex scope will serve you well.

The last gun show I attended had lots of Osprey International scopes on many dealer's tables. I examined several and I was impressed... but NOT in a good way! Vortex scopes are in a whole different class, far above the Ospreys.

Re: Osprey Scopes

I have been shooting one for a few months on an AR. It is holding up. I don't put it through the paces that I do with my higher end scopes at all, but for plinking out to 300 yds, it has done its job. The glass is definitely lower end and it gets darker with increased magnification and the edges of the view are fuzzy at times. As a previous poster noted, if it is a serious shooter, move on. If you just want something cheap to slap on top of your rig, it may fit the bill. Just realize what you are buying for your money.

Re: Osprey Scopes

i bought a bigger roughly 24 x. i had it on a 5.56 ar and it couldn't handle a recoil that heavey. it might work on a crossman air rifle. defintally not tough enough for the gamo air rifle. seriously the worst optic ive ever bought

Re: Osprey Scopes

I have a 6x20 on a Sun Devil Arms .223 , shoots good groups, holds zero. It is just a bench gun so does not get abused. Works for me for now. Just put a Nightforce on another rifle and a Zeiss on yet another, so no funds to upgrade this, glad it works!

Re: Osprey Scopes

I got two for free and I must say they are crap... I would not but them on anything I own. That said I am running USO and Premiers on my rifles. If you need a cheap scope look at a 10x SS or Bushnell. I don't think you can get a variable under 500 thats is worth anything,

It does not sound like you own a NF to me but what do I know.
