Over the Shoulder Recoil Pads

I've heard mentioned that there are some recoil pads out there to help isolate heartbeat, protect your shoulder, and remove one more point of muscle influence with the gun.

I shot a 30-06 with a hardwood stock, no recoil pad, around 40 rounds at 600 yards prone, and man, I have an awful bruise.

I'd like to find a recoil pad that straps over my shoulder so I can build it into my shooting form. Anyone have any options?

I found the one at Cabela's, I'm a lefty too, so that comes into play.

Along those same lines is the PAST Mag recoil shooting pad for heavier recoiling rifles.

I rarely use it anymore. Mostly to compensate for short LOP until I calculate out how much to add to my TRG42.

If the '06 is beating you up that bad and you can use a brake, I'd go that route personally.

Limbsaver makes a pad that is made to fit it is around $30 and does wonders for the "country mule kick" of the magnum rounds. I have one on my 300RUM it has done wonders. I know its not a shoulder pad but you should not have too much getting used to like the shoulder pad.If you have a gun that they do not make it for then you can get the cut to fit models that work as well.

Agree with the brake. You can get all sorts of brakes with different functions and features, plus it's one less piece of equip that you have to worry about placement or repeatability. It never moves. Most decent ones will cut recoil by 50% or more. I have one on my .308 rem 700. I routinely shoot 250+ rounds in a day and have no issues. You can get one for around $100 and have a local smith cut the threads and time the break if need be. Also protects crown if you use it in the field.
