Went out p-dog shooting one night after work this passed week, took my 6mm AI and 222 Rem Mag AI. The 6mm AI was the only rifle to see any action.
Loaded with 87gr Hornady HP's moving about 3400fps I killed dogs from 150-800+ yards.
I JFK'ed this one at 178 with a cold bore....truck in the background is my shooting position, prone in the bed.
Cut in half at close to 200.
Can't really tell but there are 2 dogs in the pic, I shot the one piled up at the top of the hole first and there is a pair of legs down in the hole, I shot that one second as chucks of the first one was still coming down.
At the next location I was taking some long shots and connected at 805 yards, not on my first shot but it was dumb enough to stand in the same spot and let me get the elevation and windage right. My boxer Eva and I went to locate the dead p-dog. All we could find was a blood spot on the mound and no body. Not a bad poke for a rifle that wears a straight 10x on a critter the size of a coke can.
Here is the Recovery team and my 6mm AI.
I almost feel bad shooting p-dogs right now since there isn't very many of them so I have deiced to not shoot any more closer than 400 yards....at least give them a chance.
The 6mm AI rifle isn't anything really special. InterArms Mark X action, bold trigger that breaks at 2lbs 1oz, 28 1/2" Hart Barrel, Fajen Benchrest stock, Burris straight 10x, EGW 0MOA base. Not my favorite rifle in the safe but it shoots pretty good so I still own it.
