Alright I'm sure I've over thought this so ill get a few extra thoughts. I've always used a regular jag centered my patch and pushed it through. Here recently I've read alot about how the Parker hale jags work better so here are my questions.
I'm using this on a 6.5cm, what size jag should I use? Currently I have a .22 and ordered the butches 1"1/8 patches (reccomended for .22-.270) but the patches seem incredibly small, no matter how I wrap it I can't cover all the barbs on the jag. Do I need to run bigger patches to make sure and cover them or don't worry about it? I'm still waiting on my lucas bore guide so I'm not sure how well the current set up fits as far as being loose or tight. So for anyone that could give me some insight on the Parker hale jags I would appreciate it.

I use .410 shotgun sized patches to wrap my Parker Hale jags, they measure 2"x2". Cover ALL the barbs, after all that's the point of this type of jag, getting the most surface area.

I use a Dewey jag in my 6.5's and it works perfectly as long as the patch will cover the jag.

    Edit: here's a pic of a Dewey 6.5mm jag with a 2"x2" patch.

Wow those Parker Hale jags have a lot of barbs ("teeth").
They look to be mighty fussy about what patch is used with them.

Dewey copper eliminator jags are the $hit.
No more false positives using an ammonia based cleaner, holds the patch very nicely when pushing or pulling.

I've also found parker hale style jags to be picky about patch size. For my 6mm, I've not found a patch that fits properly without modification.

Can't remember which size patches I buy (They're Eastern Maine), but If I cut them in half diagonally, they cover all the barbs on the jab and fit the bore perfectly.

Not trying to sidetrack this, but something to consider:
WEAPONS CARE SYSTEM PELLETS | Brownells

Once you give these a try, you will never go back to patches of any kind!

The plain felt ones can be used in place of anything that you would do with a patch.

The super intensive ones can be used in place of anything that you would do with a brush.

If you twist the cleaning rod once the pellet engages the rifling it pulls it down onto the adapter and spreads it out to completely fill the bore perfectly. When you push a pellet out, you can actually see the land and grove pattern on it.

Using these pellets will clean the grooves like nothing else will.

Any questions, don't hesitate to ask.

    Thanks for the replys

That's what I was wanting to know! Where did you find the dewey 6.5 parker hale jag? I don't see it listed on the site. it jumps from .224 to .27 . I'm going to order some 2x2 patches now

Bought it from the local Cabela's store. The one I have is the .24-.26 model, and I believe they make them with both male and female threads. Surely someone else must carry them also. I like the Parker Hale jags, seem to take less patches to get a barrel clean.

Here's the male thread version at MidwayUSA if you have a non-Dewey cleaning rod:
