This seems to have become the de-facto rule at most places.

They'd rather lose 100 in merchandise than 1,000s in liability claims.

The fact they fired the guys is shit though.

I walked into my local Advance Auto Parts to pick up some oil. The manager of the store was watching these two guys as they walked around. As they walked out, he approached them and asked them for the bar codes to the stuff they had stuffed in their pockets just so he could write it off. Neither of them produced anything, and obviously they played the "What are you talking about?" game, but the <span style="font-weight: bold">manager</span> had literally stood there and <span style="font-weight: bold">watched</span> them steal from the store he <span style="font-weight: bold">manages</span> and all he wanted was the information to write off the merchandise. A phone call was made to the police afterwards, but still..not a word said as they filled their pockets, not one bit of confrontation, nothing.

And how was there gun free store zone doing prior to the employee going in with his weapon...?
