Since the Garand front sight sits on the gas cylinder, which sometimes has some play, even a slightly loose gas cylinder can move the sights drastically changing your shot impact.
My Correct Grade SA 1954 Garand had a bit of play in the front sight and I just peened it. Here is a good how -to. Remove gas cylinder and hammer as shown:
Just give a few light strikes along those areas. The peening will crush the splines, which improves contact with the gas cylinder and tightens the gas cylinder, preventing front sight movement.
Helped out my Garand, thought maybe it would help you guys out too. All I gotta do now is give it a nice trigger job.
