Oh infinite wisdom of the hide, let’s hear all those personal, in the field, works all the time, range estimation tips and tricks. Would also love to hear the same with wind calls and all the voodoo magic that you skilled dudes pull off with no lasers and screens involved!

You’re likely not gonna get much.

Reticle ranging is all but a legacy skill. And very straightforward. Do the math and keep the targets ~600yds and in as well as fairly reasonable size.

If you’re shooting further distance and/or tiny targets, and want first round impacts, you don’t reticle range. Just not the way it works.

As far as wind. Carry a kestrel everywhere, take note of things you feel, see, and hear…..make a mph wind call and check with kestrel. That’s better than any secret sauce you’ll hear.

Based on the Beaufort scale effects description is the old school NRA chart which has been in almost every score book since the 1950's....Long before they had Kestrels. Use your Kestrel to learn and practice calling wind. The NRA wind rose is outdated so use the improved one from the weaponized math. Additionally, learn to observe mirage in your scope to gauge wind at the target.
