He sent me a message responding to my wanted ad, nothing crazy or expensive...a $100 10/22 stock.

First red flag, new member...joined up in January 2018, no posts and profile set to private.

Second red flag, texts me pictures that are from an eBay ad, third photo that comes up on google image search of that stock.

Broken English in the texts made me wonder, but area code comes up as Texas...so it could be his second language

Final red flag, requests payment via money order or PayPal friends and family.
I responded with I'm not comfortable with that, I'll do PayPal goods and services and cover the fees...and he responds with excuses and will only accept friends and family payment.

you can be the judge, but that's my experience with member "Pestcontrolla".

I have had a similar experience with this "
Pestcontrolla" guy.

I posted a WTB add for a KRG chassis. He responded with a SMOKIN deal, %50 of new for the stock I wanted. I PMed him, asked him some questions, and gave him my phone number so he contact me easier. I told him I would take it, and asked him how he would like payment. He then sent me a picture of the item which was not exactly what I had wanted but at the price I was still going to do it. I then asked again how he wanted payment. He responded with USPS MO. I asked him for the address and he went silent. I asked several times. My gut feeling was that something was wrong and the deal was too good to be true. I then texted him after about 6 hours, and told him that I had changed my mind and apologized for the inconvenience. He texted me back in about 30 seconds and tried to get the deal to go through. He then tried calling me several times.

Same red flags

I second an issue with this guy. I was looking to buy a Burris veracity. He responded with a good deal and sent what looked to be legit pictures. I then noticed his account seemed to vanish one day when I was going to message him. I emailed him and asked what happened and his response was all his electronic devices got wiped and he couldn’t recover his login information and he couldn’t make a new account. I then bumped my wtb post on the Burris and he amazingly responded. His English was extremely broken and the entire situation was extremely sketchy. I told him I didn’t feel comfortable and backed out of the deal. Idk if attaching pictures of PMs is allowed, if it isn’t i apologize but here is the last of the messages we sent each other

Excellent catch!
There were four other profiles also signed up from the same IP's on the same date.
They were anywhere from Nigeria to Wisconsin (using public proxies) to log in and try to scam members.
@Lowlight - They're getting much smarter on the usernames. We need to look at all IPs carefully before greenlighting them.

They're all scrubbed away now.
Great job on this!

The trick here is they're still able to access the WTB listings and make scam offers.

Possibly make to where let’s say the account has to have 50 posts to even view the sale forum? Or something like that if it’s possible? I’d be locking myself out in that situation as I’m a new member but if it makes the sale safer, I’d work my way up to full member

We cannot watch everything, we have far too much traffic,

At some point personal responsibility comes into play, if you want me to start managing the PX, then everyone has to pay... that's called Gunbroker,

Don't feel safe, don't list, don't buy, problem solved. I am not everyone's Dad here to watch you cross the street.
