Found this in a local gun shop yesterday.
I don’t know much about them, and never owned one, just read about them online.

Based off of the serial number, it’s a ‘58 or ‘59, chambered in the ultimate fudd cartridge; .30-06.

I only stopped by to pick up a brick of GM215M primers, and stumbled across this in the used rack.
For $438 out the door, I think it was too good to pass up.

For that price, shoot it until it falls apart. Then rebuild it into something different if you want.

It’s exactly what I want as it sits. I want it to keep telling it’s stories like it has for 65 years.
Is that a compass embedded in the stock?

It is. I’ll get a better picture later.

Clean it up really good and give it a shot. It might surprise you on how accurate it shoots.

I picked up a 1949 year M70 in 30-06 last year for $400 for the action and barrel. Bought a used stock for $100. I had scope rings and bases already. Gave her a very thorough cleaning, shot some Norma factory thru her and got 3/4 MOA.

I originally got her as a donor rifle to make me a 338-06 custom rifle, but she shot too good to break her down. So, the 338-06 project got put back awhile.

Good luck and let us know how she shoots.

BTW - I would not trust the compass too much, not sure how much the metal effects it's accuracy in pointing the correct direction.

thanks for the post

There is nothing Fudd about an '06

That is a superb and beautiful rifle and I won't insult you by trying to steal it from you.

It probably shoots better than almost anything off the rack that you can buy today for 2-3x the cost.

You done good!!!

And when you start handloading for accuracy... it will amaze you!

Outstanding buy! Glad it is in sympathetic hands. This is a tier-one rifle at every level!

Well done!

I have my great grand fathers. I think he bought it new in 1952.
I bought powder from you a couple times. Next time you are down by Corpus hit me up. We'll go shoot them together.
