Hello Hide,
I've been reading up on AI one-piece scope mounts for S&B 5-25's. I've seen multiple members mention that they had to machine their 18 moa and 28 moa mounts in order for the scope to fit. My question is who has done this and would like to share a picture of the modification? Thanks.

I have one of the Accuracy International one piece 18 MOA mounts that this was done to in order to fit the S&B 5-25x56 scope.

Without taking everything apart it's very hard to see anything from the photos as essentially it's put it in a mill, mill down a few mm of metal in between the rings and coat as you like and done.

The issue is the bottom of the bell that houses the adjustment controls extended down too far on that low mount.

That being said, that 18 MOA mount was great if you wanted to have a really low head position on your rifle.
Zero at 100 yards with .308 and shoot to 1000 only using just over half your elevation dialing ability. So it is a great setup.

Curious to know what 34mm tube scopes would fit without modding the mount. I have noticed on the 34mm 18 moa mount (AI part number 3108 with 33.5mm height) that if the scope mount surface is milled down a few mm, so too would the side picatinny rail retainer also have to be milled down as well to match the top of the scope mount surface between the rings which would make for little meat left to engage the scope mount retaining rail groove on the mount.

Somehow @W54/XM-388 got it to work without retention issues; seems simple though how he says it. Makes me wonder if a Burris XT line scope would fit without modding the mount. I know the 30mm tube S&B Klassik series fit with the AI scope mount 34mm-->30mm ring inserts (AI 34mm to 30mm Reducing Rings part number 4321), but that kind of defeats the purpose as AI also makes a 30mm version (part number 6371) of the 18 moa mount that works without inserts (why add an extra layer of contact and possible movement?).

Not sure if the 28 moa versions of scope mounts with 44-48mm height will prevent the bottom of the S&B 5-25x56 PMll central scope housing from contacting the scope mount surface between the rings (e.g., AI part number 4820).

Here is mine milled on my AW with the 18MOA mount and 5-25 S&B. This was done a bajillion years ago. There is about a tenth or so taken off the base of the mount to make it fit. There might be 30-40 thou of clearance between the scope and the bottom of the scope. Mile High use to do this modification all the time. I had it done by a friend that had a mill. We made sure the mount was perfectly level and where the ends were
