Hey guys Im looking for some info on Piston ARs. I have an AR with a bull barrel that is front heavy, I also have a can, so a piston might be better for suppressed shooting. I shoot 55gr to 69 gr ammo through this gun & it is my go to gun, so reliability is a plus.

Im looking for some info on the Ruger 556, Stag Arms Mod 8, and a cmmg rifle with gas piston.

The ruger has a govt profile barrel with a 1:9 in twist. I shoot 55gr when just plinking so the 1:9 is a plus there.

The cmmg only has a 1:7 twist, not preferred for 55gr ammo and only the m4 profile (I just dont like the 203 cut without a 203 mounted, which I dont have).

Stag is in the same boat as cmmg as far as options.

The other option is to ditch my heavy upper and get a cmmg upper with gas piston.

Re: Piston AR info wanted

I would highly recommends looking at the LMT piston uppers. I have one and its fantatic. Plus you get the versatility of being able to switch barrel lengths and calibers with the MRP system.

edit: and yes its a 1:7 barrel but shoots 55grn stuff just fine. Very accurate with M193. Plus you get the ability to shoot the heavier pills accuratly as well.

Re: Piston AR info wanted

The LMT rifles are nice, but probably out of my price range along with LWCR and the likes.

If I do a retorfit, Im still wanting a lighter profile barrel, it may be worth it just to get the upper already configured and sell my current upper.
