Planning an AR10 build in caliber 7mm-08 Remington. The only reasonably priced custom barrel is by Deadshot.

Will be using a 22 inch SS non fluted HBAR contour thread .750 at the gas block. That length should get all the velocity out of the 7mm-08. Dead shot will include installed gas block, gas tube, complete BCG and head space the bolt for $464. Aero Precision M5E1 upper, and handguard and featureless lower will complete the build. Yes I live CA and proposition 13 keeps me here-42 years same house. I have never done this before. Why 7mm-08 Remington? I have over 720 rounds of new Hornady ammo and have not be able to sell it . I do not want to give it away or die and leave it to the wifey. I would welcome any advice, including "don't build that caliber". So, proceed to rip me a new one, I'm all yours.

I have a Palmetto State Armory AR10 in 7mm-08 that I am quite happy with. I didn't have a stash of ammo in 7mm-08 but I always wanted a rifle in 7mm-08.

That price seems fair. Hbar might be pretty heavy. From the 42 year part, you might appreciate something on the lighter side, if not now, eventually.

I just got a Wilson Combat Ultimate Hunter barrel, 22" 6.5 Creedmoor. I haven't shot it yet but I don't think Wilson has a reputation for going too thin on their contours. If your barrel is custom and you can pick a contour, you might want to consider something like that. I haven't weighed it but it's an M5E1 with 15" Quantum Mlok handguard and I would guess it's 8.5-9 lbs without optics. It's not exactly light. But not as porky as my 24" bull barrel AR.

18" 1-10 7mm-08 x-caliber .75 moa no issues but my barrel is slow 150fps-200fps than a bolt gun, OAL length magazine anything past 139g, bullet selection below 160g not much choices I like to run. Use Lake city brass push it harder than hornady brass. I would do a Remage build or savage lighter weight than ar10 , bolt gun push 162g eld while using hornady brass. Get the most out of 7mm-08 going to be bolt

Thanks for the info. I Have contacted PSA twice and waited 6 mos and no word as to when they will restock the complete upper in 7mm-08. I not really impatient but at 77 years old I don't have much time left. All my physical abilities are degrading rapidly-"don't ever grow old".

Thank you-I agree with you.

I hear you, I'm in my late 60's and I can say people getting older should get used to the taste of ibuprofen. The 7mm-08 is not a hard on the shoulder as the .308, though both are not bad. I did add the DPMS/ Jerry Miculek brake that and a 20" barrel both help.

I actually bought a .308 upper a week before they came out with the 7mm-08 I still have that one, though it took a little work to get it happy. The .308 BCG/bolt fit was exceptionally tight and took a fair amount of shooting before it was reliable.
