So... Has anyone heard if they'll be doing runs of the PMAG 7.62 in FDE or OD anytime soon? You'd think with the increased interest in 7.62/308 auto platforms they would have already.

Re: PMAG 7.62 in FDE or OD...

1st, they are NOT for AR-10s (AR-10 = Armalite)...the 7.62 PMAGs are for DPMS LR-308, KAC SR-25, POF P-308, etc. pattern rifles.

2nd, like good ol' Henry Ford said...you can get them in any color you like as long as its black! Magpul has stated several times that they have no plans to introduce different colors for the 7.62 PMAGs despite people asking for them. Will they change their mind on this at some point...maybe, but not in the foreseeable future. If you want different colors...Krylon Fusion/Camo Fusion is your friend (available in a variety of colors, but they do have OD and a couple different sand/dirt colors).

I meant 1 thing but something entirely different came out, lol. I stand corrected...

I dont believe Magpul sees the need to justify the expenser of a Green or Tan LR mag at this time, and then it would be a $40-50 mag from my understanding, not a $15-20 retail mag...

</div></div>

They use those polymers already and make OD & FDE in the 5.56 PMAG.

Correct and there were serious issues with it.As Kevin stated black is the strongest maybe the 308 platform just puts to much strain on them.Or the numbers don't justify it.

I have heard this as well (at least they will be making internal "limiters" for mags and perhaps shorter versions down the road).

If anyone wants high-quality 7.62 PMAGs in limited capacity (either through internal limiters or cut-downs), get with Ty at MidwestPX (a site sponsor/vendor here on the Hide) because he has been making them for some time now and they are first-rate all the way!! See here for more info:

Re: PMAG 7.62 in FDE or OD...

+ 1 on Midwest PX Ty does a hell of a job. Also I hear tht Lancer is making .308 mags in the color scheme you are looking for if not Krylon works wonders.

yes they do, however the polymer mix used int eh 762 mag is different than the 5.56mm mag, the strain on 762 feedlips is about 10x that of 5.56mm
I know a little bit about 5.56mm versus 7.62mm guns

Yeah I bought some mag rebuilds there awhile back and later an ACS stock and muzzle brake. Very fast communication no problems good guy.

Re: PMAG 7.62 in FDE or OD...

I would think that Magpul would find a way to make the various colored 7.62 if they wanted to. Since they have no real competition for the mags it is doubtful they will anytime soon.

Re: PMAG 7.62 in FDE or OD...

hmmm. I guess that explains why ar-15 mil magazines are made of aluminum but the sr-25 mags were made of steel.

Re: PMAG 7.62 in FDE or OD...

Ok, so my next question is why not do a mag platform with a steel feed lip like...

Lancer doesn't make them in 7.62 as far as I can tell either. I'm not opposed to spraying, but paint just doesn't hold up to abuse as well.

Re: PMAG 7.62 in FDE or OD...

I have a few duracoated 7.62 PMAGs, see here: FDE PMAG. It's a crappy pic, I know...

They hold up very well. You have to color mix the paint in order to get it to match exactly (actually paid to have them done in order to exactly match). Both Cerakote and Duracoat are much lighter than Magpul FDE, even the colors labeled Magpul FDE from the respective listed companies.

Re: PMAG 7.62 in FDE or OD...

S&W, Glock, and XD's are available in FDE and OD. Do you really think it is a strength issue?

I've used the self-etching primer (duplicolor) available at Wally world, on P-Mags, and it produces a dark OD color that will not peel off.

Did you have the entire shell done or just the visible areas after seated?

I was going to clean them with a polyurethane degreaser and then etch prime & paint with a flex additive...

Re: PMAG 7.62 in FDE or OD...

I got over the FDE and OD fad, everything is back to black, but i bet if the made some different color mags I would have to build another rifle to match.
