Some of you fellas may have seen this over on accurate shooter but i wanted to share it with you fellas as well. I know a lot of fellas over here shoot Lawton actions, so here you go! I did all this on a buffing wheel attached to my grinder with different colors or polishing rouge. It took quite a few hours, and a lot of getting zapped by the grinder, but it sure looks nice. I have one more action to do this way, and i am not really looking forward to it! LOL!! Tell me what you think. Lee

this is what i used to do the work. I wish i had a regular polishing tool, but this works. You just get shocked a lot!

This rifle is next. this will also give you some idea of what it looked like before i started. Like i said its a lot of work and i cant seemed to get the motivation to get started, but i will! I also wanted to add that i used red rouge for the final polish. I later earned that a light green rouge would have been best. I think i will try to find some for when i do the red gun (dasher) the actions are Lawton 7500 dual port. Enjoy! Lee

I need to put my sunglasses on first...

I have my bench grinder set up the same way; I hate being shocked by it also, so I got myself a pair of rubber gloves.

Good job.

Never been able to understand the appeal myself either

.

I remember each time I'd bring it up at the range with someone who had a bright red and green space gun or a garish American flag or tiger print bench gun "why?" and the answer was always "well, why not! It doesn't have to be black, it's not service class!" Like it was finally a breath of fresh air from the horribly restricting finishes of standard rifles.

Ok fine, makes sense, I guess...

But I'd invariably look at the guy's car, his clothes, his choice of personal jewelry, for example. No one was restricting him there either, yet somehow he avoided dayglow spandex and fluorescent green flames. So why on Earth did the supposedly manliest thing he owns warrant the super fruitcake/80s metal band paint treatment?

Alright, I've just antagonized all the benchrest shooters on this forum. Sweet.

Re: Polished my Lawton 7500 Pics Up!!

I think it's sweet! But maybe that's because I already have enough mean looking rifles.

GAP is building me a F-class rifle (should almost be done by now) on a stainless steel Templar. I told George to finish it either polished or bead blasted matte grey (his choice). I wonder which he method he decided on? It's going to be a suprise, but I'm sure it'll be badass either way.

Re: Polished my Lawton 7500 Pics Up!!

Benchrest is definitely a class all to its own. Do i like the all the fancy colors, not really. The problem being, thats all there is!!! I do like my red and black stocks and now have 3 of them. No purple or pink for this fellas though, but i have seen them! LOL!! No really i have seen them! Anyway the shock is from static. I tore the grinder apart looking for the cause and didnt find anything. I was talking with another fella on 6mm BR and he told me it was static. The shock will get your attention i assure you! Back to the benchrest thing. I have had this conversation with Jon many times. I love smacking steel plates but there are non for miles around, let alone a comp to shoot. Benchrest is all we have and i like to shoot! I just polished the little BAT action i have for sale here to last night. Looks real nice!! Ill post a pic later today. I am going shooting today. First time in 2 months. Weather has been shit!!! Later!! Lee

Re: Polished my Lawton 7500 Pics Up!!

I am not into br but I love guns. That is one pretty sob. I dont own a br setup but I have buddies that do and they are all polished bats with really loud colored stocks. Its sort of like going to a custom car show. If you are a car nut you love them all. If you are more into rock crawlers a car show wont do much for you.

love the bling skeet. shine on

Re: Polished my Lawton 7500 Pics Up!!

Yeah, I actually thought of the car show analogy a little after I posted

You know what I'd like to see though? Ok, so obviously with the BR guns it has nothing to do with practicality- you're basically just peacocking the thing since it will never have to blend in, be ergonomic, lightweight (beyond the weight class), etc. BR is essentially distilling the tool down to a bolt, a trigger, and a tube. So, that being the case, rather than go the White Snake approach, I would deck out my rig like some classic scifi weaponry:

Think about it- since we've already established the gun's furniture is purely cosmetic fluff at this point, why not have some real fun?

As the long as the barrel were still freefloated, you could stick it on your rests, and it's within weight class, hell, I'd start taking my cues from James Cameron over ZZ Top.

Man I'd love to see their reactions with that one.

And I thought my next plan- to go shoot trap with a tactical shotgun with optic sight -would elicit ire. Heh

Re: Polished my Lawton 7500 Pics Up!!

You inspired me!
I did a little of that to my 686 in the past
with just a rag and some flitz. I think I'll
take a buffing wheel to it next!
