Just was looking today and came across a tikka t3 sporter has a laminated stock that looks similar to the TRG, threaded barrel on the 20" models. Only gripe is the color, and the magazine release location.

I wonder how much a guy gives up with the t-3 compared to the TRG22. It looks like it has only two locking lugs instead of three. By the time you put it in a Wiskey 3 it might be pretty close, dollar wise???

Sako cleverly offset the downside of the two lug Tikka action by making the bolt throw only 70 degrees instead of 90. So it's only 10 degrees more than the TRG.
A T3 in a W3C could save you 1k more or less, depending. You would then have access to different calibers. However, you wouldn't get the TRG trigger (although you can upgrade to a TRG trigger on your T3) and you wouldn't get the nice Sako double stack magazine. The TRG would be slightly lighter as well due to it's all polyurethane furniture.

These sporter rifles in the past have been know to shoot 1/2 MOA out of the box and for about 1/3 of the price of a TRG.

Im a lucky owner of a original Tikka Master Sporter in .308. The master sporter is the real deal. Im shooting a 168gr SMK and I think 42.0 gr Varget and a 210m and it easily a 1 hole gun at 100 yards. Ive shot sub 1" groups at 200 yards with it.

It's very colorful that's for sure. Anyone know if these are going to be brought into the US and at what cost? Somehow since the tactical is about $1500 I seriously doubt this one is going to be 1/3 of a TRG.... that would be $800.

You are all missing the most important point with the tikka.
The caliber, as they make it in 6,5x55.
Almost 338 trakectory with half powdercharge and mild recoil.....

no, i think it means that EVERY gun that can reach 100 yards can be a one whole gun at 100 yards, IF you fire just one shot.

What's wrong with the stock trigger? I have the original M595 Master Sporter and the trigger is nothing short of perfect. Did they screw up the trigger when they went to the T-3?
I wouldn't say "one hole groups" are easy, but they happen fairly often.

I think (hope) that price is artificially high. The T3 lite is listed at 1050 and it sells for 519 here. Hopefully these sporters come in well under 1500, otherwise they will be in Sako 85 Varmint territory.
The TRG trigger is better in several ways in my opinion. It is adjustable for position for example, and also it is a two stage trigger, and the bottom mounted safety selector. This is subjective of course. The Tikka trigger has remained the same from the 595 to the T3 as far as I can tell.

Has anyone had opportunity to handle and dissemble this rifle? If it's a T3 design, the recoil lug is aluminum and an obvious weak point. T3 is, like all Tikka, super accurate, but I have heard heavy users shot out the aluminum lug and needed to replace it with steel lug. Has Tikka addressed this issue in the expensive sporter line?

I have testfired it in .308 and I have friends who have it in 6,5x55.
As far as I can recall it has the standard alu recoillug, but I have a hard to to see that as a problem as the recoillug only is a something like a 1/4" metal plate.
So really anyone can switch it out to something else.
I really like the sporter, it has the stock of the TRG but the weight of a hunting rifle and the accuracy of a customgun.
I use to write firearmsreviews hunting mags here, and I have over the years tested loads of guns, and not many times of the years have I felt that I really wanted the gun, but the T3 sporter is certainly one of those.
Just as much as I really felt that Benelli R1 not is for me.............

However, shooting in this country is reserved for evil men who go around killing babies and skinning animals alive to feed their satanic bloodlust whilst planning Australia's version of 9/11.... well at least if you listen to our media that is.
T3 Lite's retail for around the MSRP/RRP here, as there is little competition amongst firearms shops. However, in the US it's different. So you may find one dirt cheap. However, i would reccomend buying a stock T3 Varmint, putting it in a Whiskey3/Roedale/Manners stock of your choice, and you would still be paying significantly less than a TRG, as well as having a greater range of calibre choices.

I just took delivery of a Tikka T3 Sporter in 6.5x55 yesterday. I loaded up some ammo and am headed to the range tomorrow. My initial observations are mostly positive but I am a little disappointed in the plastic trigger guard and plastic magazine for the price. The trigger easily adjusted to under 2 lbs but I set it at 2lbs even. There is an Anschutz rail under the forend. The stock didn't come with enough spacers for me but I am 6'7" so I made some more. The screw that holds the cheek piece setting is missing (not the tension screw). I mounted a S&B 12-50 on a EGW 20moa rail and I am anxious to shoot it.

If I should go for the 260 and didnt care about the money the obvious choise is the TRG if you can live with the extra weight.
I have a Tikka Varmint in 6,5x55 and that was my obvious choise as I cant get TRG in that caliber....
Both guns shoots equally well and I like both of them.

For those of us in the US with no access to T3 varmint (or other Tikka/SAKO heavy barreled 6.5x55), converting a M695 looks like a viable option. McMillan makes A3-5 stock for Tikka 695 ($700). I handled the sporter before I left my old job. The stock feels like my master sporter but the bottom metal is the t3 bottom metal which I really don't like. Getting to the mag can be a hassle.

There is a couple of people in the US that have bought Sporters in 6,5x55 from Eurooptics recently.
So I have a hard time to see the advantage by working on the old Tikkas as there is an spareparts issue on those.

Just got back from the range with my new Tikka T3 Sporter in 6.5x55. I loaded Sierra 142's in new Lapua brass, no case prep just load them up. Seat bullets .020 off the lands. Here are 4 shot groups at 100 yards for powder charges varying by .5 grains of H4831SC. These are the first shots out of the gun after 2 sighters to get it on at 100. I think it did pretty good.

I think the action is identical and the barrels are all made on the same machines. This barrel is about 24" long and .865" diameter at the muzzle.
