Shooting alone is fun but the targets make it a blast! I'm sure we're all looking for good ideas so post your favorite targets, dingers, etc.!

I like to set sidewalk chalk on end & snipe from a distance.

Golf balls, probably my favorite of them all. Shoot and they move to another distance. Fantastic for UKD shooting and an all around good time. They're inexpensive for how many shots you get out of them too. Hours of fun for every one.

Clay pidgeon, they break when you hit them, and provide smaller targets the more hits you make. Plenty of fun and challenging the longer you're at it.

I can't remember if tennis balls are reactive or not but I used to shoot 'em and they're not bad IIRC
TACHIN23.jpg

Pretty challenging to hit at any distance over 50 yards considering they're about the same size as the bullet itself usually.

Because I hate squirrels. This is a ground squirrel, but the pic applies to all killable species of course.

Jack rabbits are ugly SOB's and fun to shoot.

Fresh horse poop, fun when you shoot it if you're far enough away to avoid the smell...

I don't really shoot Mr. TigerBlood here but I ran across this pic in my search for targets and figured why not post it...

^^Seriously the worst ghillie i've ever seen in my life. Too much jute on his suit. I can clearly see him, he doesn't even blend in!

...Wait, what were we talking about?

Re: Post Your Favorite 22 Targets!

I like empty shotgun shells. There are usually tons at the range. Cheap, free, already there.

Clay birds for reasons above.

Smack the Smiley targets. Money goes to good cause, great prizes, bragging rights and so on.

Squeaks (and other killable vermin).

Dogs that chase my livestock. This is not my favorite, I don't enjoy, but if you let your dogs lose on my property and they chase my horse, sheep, chickens or turkeys, tough $hit.

Did I mention squeaks? Thems are my FAVORITE!

Re: Post Your Favorite 22 Targets!

I do a majority of my shooting at an indoor facility so I am limited to paper targets only. I usually put 2-3 of these out along with a page of 1" dots for group shooting at 100yds. I play a little game where I fire 10 rounds and see how high a score I can get. If I hit the hostage it is a point deduction (-1) and a headshot is a half point bonus(+0.5). You can only score a target once per round so the maximum possible score is 19 by landing headshots on all aggressor targets.

Re: Post Your Favorite 22 Targets!

Bunsen that's a pretty sweet target, that would be a blast competing against your friends!

Where do you guys get your materials for making dingers?

Re: Post Your Favorite 22 Targets!

the 50 yard trc target we use for our monthly rimfire comps.

i haven't found one yet that combines 5 different types of targets into 1 8.5x11 sheet of paper. for stage 2, we randomly pick 10 numbers every month - adds a search feature, and no 2 targets are alike - keeps it different.

second favorite is the smallbore silhouette targets. neat pinging sound, and some reation when they fall. front colored white, backs are marking paint orange for a bit of contrast when getting flipped over.

Thanks. I can't take full credit for the idea behind it though since it's basically a paper version of the CVRPC 22 Tactical Steel Challenge match. You are correct that it is a blast competing against friends with it though!

Re: Post Your Favorite 22 Targets!

Heck ya! I was planning on the white spraypaint. The larger bottom spinner is 3.5" dia. so I think it'll be a fun 200yd target

A friend of mine has a similar set to those shown and they're beginning to warp a bit. I'm sure a couple minutes with a hammer will flatten them out in no time.

***Edit - Dingers arrived and abused them a bit! CCI SV ammo did nothing to them. I don't think these will warp/bend, nice build quality

Bunsen- Do you happen to know the dimentions they use? I have been looking at their rules sheet but cant seem to find it there nor on their website although I havent used their search feature. Just thought i would ask. I may look into starting something here like that.

Thanks

PM Apache308 or ArmorPl8chikn they run the match and would know the exact dimensions. I can only offer guestimates. I don't know how much travel it would be, but you should consider making the trip over either in Sept or October. It's a great match run by a great group of guys. You will have a great time and leave with a smile o your face.

These are coyote targets I made myself. The white one is all steel. I set them up in natural conditions for realism.

I also got a sheet of steel, painted it white with 6 black paint splotches for a target. I can see the bullets when they hit @200 yards. Easier to see and cheaper than paper. I can move around, laser, adjust, and shoot easier than using several steel plates.

Re: Post Your Favorite 22 Targets!

where can I get a few of these targets, and how far are you shooting?<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: Bunsen</div><div class="ubbcode-body">I do a majority of my shooting at an indoor facility so I am limited to paper targets only. Re: Post Your Favorite 22 Targets!

Here's my favorite now. Used to be jacks/PD's and such but this is now my favorite since my grandaughter made the stencil for it.

Re: Post Your Favorite 22 Targets!

when i take my wife and niece shooting i use hard candy as they are reactive sweet tarts, rockets and during certain times of the year there are themes halloween suckers or something like these

WI2115.1422.jpg

they have told me some of the targets are too large so i told them i would be getting tic tac for them to try and hit.

someone else suggested paint balls. which seem like a great idea.
