Powder for .338 Lapua Mag?

Hi Guys,

New to reloading. Looking for recommendations on what kind of
powder I should try for my .338 Lapua Magnum. I'll be using
both 250gr. and 300gr. bullets.

I like H1000 for 250gn and 300gn.

Retumbo is good. I've also had real good luck with Ramshot Magnum with 250s. Check the load data section for more loads.

VVN560 is a sleeper for the 250's. I get close to 3100fps with easy bolt lift.

H1000 and Retumbo are my best for the 300's.

VV-165, VV-170, VV-N560, VV-N570, H-4831sc, H-1000, H-Retumbo, RL-25, RL-33 (new) and some of the other magnum powders will all work.

Is the VVN560 temp insensitive? And what altitude are you shooting at to get this velocity? Thanks krw

VVN560 is one of the best "extreme" powders out there.

I'm at 2600' here. I suspect MV would be the same anywhere.

FWIW, I've shot .338 LM's at 11,000'. It's really amazing what they can do at those elevations!

I couldn't agree more, Ive been using N560 in my 250gr loads for years, Best ES/SD results of all the powders I use, the only thing is $$$ but since I don'y shoot over 40 rds of 338 a month the benefit of it covers the cost.
