Are any of these ball powder? Vihtavuori N570,20N29,24N41,Lovex D1001 Or Hodgon 50 BMG. I am not to up on what powders are ball or extruded. I am just doing a bit of research on a round I am going to reload. Its for a 7mm Rem mag. I know there are alot of good powders out there for it but I am just curious. Also who or where do you find ADI powder? I saw it on quickload. It said ADI AR 2218. Any help is appreciated. Thank you in advance.

    Re: Powder question.

For 7 mm RM look at H4831 or AA-3100. There not ball powders and will give you the velocity you need to move a bullet out of a 7. There some other options, but why reinvent the wheel.

    Good luck

Not trying to reinvent the wheel. I'm trying to match a powder from HSM ammo using quickload. There's uses a ball powder. I know what everyone says special powder for manufactures. But I pulled a round on .308 155s and it was loaded with varget. Just bored playing with quickload to see what would be close in ball powder because that's what it has. I've got a few powders when put in quickload almost match fps of what the box says. I'm just courious if these others are ball powder. Because I just don't know and want to try something. But thanks for the info.

    Re: Powder question.

H-4831SC (SC=Short Cut) is a Hodgdon Extreme (less temp sensitive) Powder that is cut short to allow it to meter very similar to ball powders. Since(IIRC) no ball powders are made to the Extreme temp insensitivity spec, H-4831SC might be superior to ball powders as a potential propellant. For a slightly faster burn rate, H-4350 is also formulated to the SC and Extreme powder specs.

    Re: Powder question.

I'm not sold on HSM ammo. If you're reloading you can do better than a lot of the factory offerings. It may take some experimentation to get things right, but consider it an investment in your rifle.

I use H100V in my 7 SAUM, it's not a ball powder, it's technically a stick but the kernels are very small and meter very very nicely. It's part of Hodgdon's extreme line of powders (just like H4350 and Varget) and it seems to be pretty available.

I also use 4831sc for 6.5mm rounds, and that works nicely too.

If you have a specific bullet you want to shoot, I'm willing to bet that you can match the HSM offering very well, just don't sideline yourself to a specific powder at the outset.

    Re: Powder question.

thanks guys. I'm not going to sideline with just that powder. I already have some r-22 going to get some 17 and some others I have seen recomended on here. Just courious what it is that's all. I know I can make better loads
