Just started hunting this year with a .300 WSM. I haven't reloaded any yet as it liked the Black Hills 180 gr Accubond and I didn't have brass. I plan to start reloading in the near future. Anyone have experience with reloading the 300 WSM? I am curious to powders for the short mag case? I typically have RL-15, IMR-4064, H-4895 and Varget on hand. What works best for the 300 WSM?

Hello. Those powders will work fine with the lighter weight bullets, say 165gr and less. For 180/190gr and up, optimal powders will be H4831/IMR4831 and slower.

Re: Powder Suggestions for .300 WSM

I have used H4831 and H4350 to this point with good results, H4350 seems to favor the 190 grain bergers I’m using, as far as velocity is concerned.

As for dies I use a lee collet neck sizing die and a redding body die when it is needed, Im a big supporter of redding's competition bullet seating die and use one for all of my precision rifles.

Info for Nosler bullets:180gr Ballistic tip Accubond and Partition: Ballistic Coefficient:BT/AB(.507)PT(.474)Sectional density:.271. Powder W760 charge weight in (grains) 64.0 3029fps 91% load density,62.0 2933fps 88% load density,60.0 2826fps 85% load density. This is what Winchester is supposedly using in their Factory Loads in the BlackBox labeled Supreme. This is what i got out of my Winchester Model 70 with a factory 24 inch barrel. I use Lee Factory Crimp Dies for resizing and bullet seating hope this helps.

My 2 favorite loads currently are:

190gr SMK
69.7gr H-4831sc
Fed 210M

190gr SMK
65.8gr IMR4831
Fed 210M

Both of these loads hover right around 2900fps in my 25" Rock tube, depending on the temperature that day.
