Powder Valley Has Primers

I've slowly been able to find powder, projectiles, and 22lr in stock. Primers are the hard one to find, but I don't need em bad enough to pay Gunbroker prices. 5K primers are going for $800-1100 right now

This shortage really is not like the others.

The last time round sites like midsouth and PV were at least taking backorders. I tend to buy in enough at a time to last a couple of years shooting. When I have about 12 months left, I buy in another 24-36 months supply. This keeps batch numbers consistent and maximizes the use of the HAZMAT free, which is the same whether I order 1000 or 10000 primers, or 1 lb or 32 lbs of powder. And because I had a buffer, I didn't mind waiting 6 or 9 months for the backorder to be filled.

Today, I can't backorder anywhere, which tells me that there is no predictability or stability in the market. And this makes the buying behavior even worse. While I'm not really desperate yet, I am buying primers and powder when I can, because I have no idea if I will run out before availability normalizes, even with long backorder times. By doing that I'm taking away from the really desperate who have nothing left I know, but what else am I supposed to do?

I have already cut back my range trips, at least in terms of number of rounds fired, even if I still go the same number of times. Where before I might just plink for fun, now I have a range plan on what I'm going to do, along with an allowed round count. In the past if I couldn't get something right I would just work it out at the range through trial and error. Now, I make notes, go home and think about the problem and formulate a new plan and allocated rounds.

Insane and f'in nuts doesn't begin to describe this. It'll be half over when I can backorder, and over when I can walk into my LGS and buy primers. I'm guessing sometime in 23 or 24 at this rate....

24 is a other election year. This is our future for the foreseeable future. Highly possible online sales aren’t even allowed any more in the near future

Discord is one thing, the high speed guys use Distill. It’s a bot like app that tracks changes in a web page. You put primers in your wish list and set it to ping the wish list every XX min/sec. This give them about 30 sec head start over everyone else. Now the sites are getting wise and banning IPs that do this and it’s a big reason why BP cut off online sales.

Like front running high frequency trading but for primers.

Good luck. This ain’t getting better anytime soon.

All the websites need to ban IPs that use bots. I’m game for the mad rush when they are listed but it’s some BS when bits are buying it within 10 sec of it being posted. Especially since they are just turning around and selling them on gun broker.

If they let us backorder, with a note saying your order could take up to a year to fulfill, I think it would stop a lot of resellers. They could still impose a small limit, but make it reasonable so that hazmat fees aren't too bad. I would happily put my order in and wait. Hell, I waited six months for just two boxes of ammo from Midway that I ordered in August and just got this month.

Unfortunately, folks who are buying the components at gouge prices on Gunbroker are fueling this shortage. Of course opportunists with tech skills are grabbing the goods and reselling at 300% markup. A one brick primer limit with shipping and hazmat isn't so hot either. My powder supply matches my primer supply. When I run out, and I can't get any more at a reasonable price, then I will just spend more time on my Harley. I will not participate in a broken supply chain.

just to ask about how many primers would one normally go through in a year just wondering if you planned on shooting normally or in a heavy shooting year ? also wondering about how much powder I think it would depend on what load you settle on but wonder if how many lbs of the stuff I could need for a year or two's worth . cool at least that's a starting point I was not looking for an exact number just an rough idea of where to start .

No one really can answer that question for you. It depends how much you shoot. For some, 1 box of primers lasts a year, others a month.

When I shot USPSA religiously, I was shooting 35k+ a year.

So, it depends...

So how do we get a bot
This is how we get primers in the future

Either pay for Distill.io or join Discord.
At $12 a month, its definitely worth it for Distill.io, but how fast is it vs the standard emails that come out from say MidwayUSA?

I’m on Discord already. It works really well, no complaints, but the problem is as more join it will only slow the chance of getting it. Two days ago they pretty much took down Natchez with the primer alerts.

MidwayUSA doesn't send emails consistently. I'm literally on every notification. Never received one. I scored 15k SRP using Discord.

Distill.io is cracking down and starting to ban accounts that refresh gun related sites. Won't give them my money FYI.

Ahhh gotcha. Yeah, not going to bother if they're going to pull that shit.

Discord isn’t a magic bullet you still need to be quick. I’ve gotten jugs of almost all the in demand powders over the past month.

Every time I’ve added something to the cart the server would crash at the store or it would be OOS by the time I made it to checkout. I’ve reacted within seconds 20+ times. Perhaps I’ll get lucky, but I’ve little faith. Too many ppl using the notifications.

Something I found that works. Maybe luck maybe odds.

Very rarely will only 1 powder of a brand drop. Usually it’s a big shipment of all H powders. During a drop when the notification gets sent out for a different powder then one I’m looking for but the same brand I look at the powder I really want and sometimes it gets “looked over” by the masses.

Example:

I want H4350.

Get alert that Varget is in stock, I’ll go to H4350 page while everyone else is looking at Varget and grab my 2 jugs of H4350.
