Maybe not such a stupid question but when buying off of the classifieds here or other places, what is the safest way to ensure your package arrives. Pay by USPS money order, PayPal with credit card, Credit card checks, this may be a Canadian thing. I have had many transactions over the years and nothing but positive results but it’s always in the back of your mind. Please let me know. And what would be Your recourse of action if something did not show up. How do you protect yourself.

PayPal with someone you don't trust is a crapshoot. They don't back firearms purchases so you run the chance of the "seller" defrauding you and PayPal saying you tried to buy a gun to bad. I use PayPal F&F with things I trust sellers for. I'll pay 3.5% if I'm leary of the seller.

Money orders and checks do not protect against fraud. If you do FFL to FFL through your shop that might cover it via either FFL to FFL or your credit card to a business. I'd ask the issuer for the card for specifics on how buyer protection works.

In the States a FFL to FFL transfer is the safest. That way you have a record of the gun with serial number being given to someone so it gets lost it isn't on you. Plus the buyer has to do a NICS check and do a 4473 to transfer the gun to them. So if the gun does end up being used in a crime, no matter how slim those chances are, you have a paper trail to cover you back side when law enforcement starts looking for a 'good guy' to pin the source of the gun on.

There is no rifle that I want bad enough that I can't wait to find it within driving distance. The more it costs, the farther I'm willing to drive.

If both the seller and you are residents of the same state: cash and carry. If not, you can then execute the sale at an FFL in the seller's state of residence if the firearm is a rifle or shotgun.
