Hallo together,

i would like to go to a gunsmith to build an manufactured precision Rifle - Budget 3,5 - 4K (without Scope)
Distance 100 / 200 / 300 and 600 Yards
I dont want to buy an "old Man Benchrest Rifle" - ist should look like an
Sig Sauer Phantom / AI AX / AI AT...

What are your favorite parts ?
Chassy
Barrel
Barrel length
Action
Trigger

Caliber Choice

One thing to start with, if you want to be competitive in benchrest you’ll need a “old man rifle”

no rails, folding buttstock, flush cups

Just a rectangular stock with a wide flat front and a bag riding rear.

if you just want a really accurate rifle for those distances then you can make it look cool and have some accessories etc.

But benchrest is about making weight in a class so all barrel , light weight stock and lightweight scope etc

and if it’s 100-200 yards the PPC is the only cal you should build

Volker, I would go with NC Rado (Herr Schwarze). He uses exclusively Bartlein/Krieger barrels, custom actions of his own, Birx&Andy Triggers and either custom or GRS Stock. All that for 3200-4000EUR. As for the caliber I would go with 6BR improved (BRA or XC).

Give Kelbly’s a call. They can help get you a plan together and sift though some ideas.

Brian nailed. For my COVID project I built a “Old Man Rifle.” If you want to be competitive you are going to want a purpose-built setup. Weight needs to be a consideration depending on what your plans are.

For caliber consider the 6BR, 6BRA, 6 Dasher, 6BRX, or possibly the 6GT. You need to decide if you are going to operate out of a magazine.

Barrel: Bartlein, Krieger, Brux, and Blake.

Lots of great gunsmiths out there. Take a look and Alex Wheeler, Warner Tool, and Kelblys.

You wanna shoot benchrest? Build a benchrest rifle. Old man rifle my ass...
Hallo Caihlen and all together,
i wan‘t to build an Rifle with maximum Precission and Look like an modern Sniper Rifle.
I read some books abouth precision shooting and precision Reloading but all of the Rifles are optical „old man Rifles“. I know - the old Fox know how it runs 😉.
I know also the reloading for that is much work.

So i want collect the best Parts and put it in a Great chassy.

Experts - let ne know your choice.

all joking aside if you want that type of precision you need that type of gear.

Everything else is a “less accurate” system. Bags, forend shape etc.

After the specialized BR designs like no magazine etc, all the top dollar stuff is the same.

Use a gunsmith you seem to like and have him give you his suggestions. expect 5 shot groups in the .3-.5moa area if you can shoot that well consistently.

My .223 and 6BR can shoot 5 shot groups at 100 yards in the .0s on occasion using a bag rider and rest. The barreled actions are in XLR Element chassis not a BR stock. They both have TL3 actions, Jewell triggers, the .223 has a Shilen barrel, and the 6BR has an X-Caliber barrel.

Only in my dreams. Nice shooting!

Hallo Fret,
hallo together,

perfect, that are the Informations i looking for!
Nice Rifle, perfect shooting, how much do you spend for that rifels?
What is your more preferd caliber? .223 or .6BR
What twist have the shilen Barrel (exact description ... diameter, length)

Thanks lot for "understanding" what kind of rifle i want to build.

This Threat shold not be negative to the Benchrest-Shooters - they are all the high experts - but the design of the "Stocks" are not mine.

Please show more Rifles and Configurations and a price idea

personally my favorite part of the gun is either the grip or the trigger as most of the time they are the parts I touch to hear my happy bang noise , bolts or bullets would be a close third with out them there would be no next shot or loud bang .

I think the chassis, action, trigger, and barrel came to around $2500 or so. They are both have bull barrel contours and are 26" long. The BR is 12 twist with .271 no turn neck and I think .094 freebore. The .223 is a 14 twist with .250 neck which requires a little neck turning. I actually ordered a .253 neck but I had ordered a .250 neck .222 at the same time and Shilen got it mixed up. They both shoot pretty well but you have to do a lot of testing to figure out what and how much powder, what bullet, seating depth, and on and on..........

Thanks to all,

what do you think,
if i go to a gunsmith for my custom rifle

What precisstion on 100 yard (300 yard) in MOA can be realized (on a "mountet / clamped Rifle / with perfect reloaded...)?
I have no idea what is the technically possible precision on a rifle like Fret´s pictures - not a railed or BR Stock rifle.
