Before I write this review I want the reader to know I have had numerous instructors/trainers of some sort in my life-time from college professors to handgun and tactical trainers from all walks of life.
With that, I had the pleasure to attend Long Gun Training (Longguntraining.com) under the direction of Curt Drewel aka Jaeger308 and guest instructor Rob Ormond aka Rob01 on September 12, 2014 – September 14, 2014.
Prior to the training I had approximately 1053 rounds down range not including my Marlin 30/30 from when I was a child. I was first approached about the school by some friends. I was reluctant for various reasons, one being I am self taught You-Tuber, green as they come, rifle shooter and second I had no idea at the time who Curt Drewel was and if he was legit. Like any curious person, I had a friend of mine who is a FO for a Federal Agency make some inquires about Curt. The response back from my buddy was “this guy knows his shit”. Still nervous form my lack of knowledge and knowing the friends that asked me to go have years of trigger time and are great shooters, I attended the class.
All three days started with classroom theory, and then followed by applying that theory on the range. Day one felt like a ton of information was being tossed at me and I had information overload. This very quickly disappeared once we got on the line. The information was broken down very methodically and systematically, that even grandma could shoot groups of a lifetime. My brain was as hungry applying the knowledge from the classroom as my rifle was for the 175 grain bullets I hand loaded. The drills we went through on day one took all the overload of information and made it into an easily understood lifetime wealth of knowledge. The same occurred on day two and three, the drills and knowledge the instructors delivered was seamless. If you didn’t understand something they broke it down. If you still had the deer in the headlights stare, they broke it down every which way until you got it. When applying the theory on the line their hawk eyes were on you like a fat kid waiting for his cake, correcting anything that needed fixed to send the all important perfect round down range. There is no greater satisfaction then a shooter setting up for their shot: 10-30 MPH winds, peering through his scope at a small ass target 700 hundred yards away hearing, “you’re up”, “shooter ready”, “spotter up, .6 left, SEND IT” and then “BANG……….DING” GLORIOUS, ALL DAY………
Curt is a great instructor and he brings in great guest instructors like Rob that are just as knowledgeable. Hell he even had friends dropping by that can shoot lights out of a “Special K” box. Not to mention certain students that took Curt’s class and never left. So if you think you know it all, like many that are reading this, or you are as virgin as Mary, you can rest assure and have no reservation about attending one of his schools. I came out of the class 255 rounds lighter and bags of useful knowledge that improved my shooting leaps and bounds. Any question or comments feel free to ask…….SEND IT ………………..
