Yes, this thread has been done before. However, I am going to pose the question slightly differently, and now the 455 Precision Trainer has been out longer, so I feel this is valid.
I have been bitten by the rimfire bug. I want a really nice rimfire in the same size as a full size bolt rifle. I could do a 40x, but I want a repeater and the Black Ops build is probably out for me as non are in the hands of end users and indefinite lead times do not go well with my impatience.
That said, I have two viable options (an Anschutz is out as I want something in a McMillan A5 or Manners T4,) that I can think of, and that is either a CZ 455 Precision Trainer or a Sako Quad.
The CZ will be bought along with a DIP pic rail, DIP bottom metal, DIP mag well, Timney trigger, and a Lilja barrel which will be shipped to a smith for threading before I install it.
The Sako will be much the same, though a stock will have to be ordered and a bit more research will have to be done to individual components, as I am more familiar with the CZ.
Looking for a bit of input from here. The CZ gets the nod from me at this point because it comes in the stock I want with no wait time, and because it has a price advantage. It seems the CZ is cheaper including the Manners than the Sako is stock with the factory stock. A case could be made for the Sako and I would like to hear it, but the argument of a better trigger doesn't matter much due to the Timney being available. Same thing with the stock barrel, a Lilja will be going on thread build regardless of which rifle is chosen. Either rifle will be bedded also.
I'd like to hear arguments both ways. If they both have Lilja barrels and both are bedded, is one action more inherently accurate than the other? What other benefits would be to going with the Sako?
Thanks,
-Bob
