Any predator hunters out there? More specifically coyotes. A good friend of mine just lost 24 chickens to a pack of them. He's going to make some upgrades to his coup, but still wants to be able to kill any he sees on his property. He has several old hunting rifles and shotguns, but wants to use a Rock River Arms AR-15 that he's had for some time. Not sure which model, but I know that It has a 16" heavy SS barrel on it. Currently there is a very cheap (think Walmart or maybe Wish.com) optic on it. What would you guys suggest he gets? My thoughts were a Nikon 3-9x with the BDC.

***Edit*** - Looking for something around $300 or under, if that helps.

Thanks,

Shane T.

Leupold Vx-II 3x9 served me well for years for everything from coyote hunting to carbine classes. Can find them used on AccurateShooter.com classifieds or ebay or new. Leupold still offers their lifetime warranty as far as I know.

I use a Primary Arms 1-8x, and I have a Flir PTS233 showing up eventually. Even without a big objective I can see fine with red lights at night.

I have been using a Nikon Monarch 2.5-10x42 for ten years on my Rock River Predator Pursuit. The glass is ok not great and tracking has been spot on. I like having 2.5 on the low end for the really close shots.
