Just to let everyone know, I actually held one of the PR Hunter 3X15 scopes today and had the opportunity to play with it (a little).
Just as background, I have a full sized PR Heritage 3X15 on a hunting rifle and wished for a smaller version since this is a carry rifle and as we all know from Paul at PR, they have been developing one with the intention of having it ready for the SHOT show.
Well I have the shear dumb luck of living only a few miles from the PR facility and as promised, when the first one of these scopes popped off of the production line, Paul called me and invited me to see it before it went to the SHOW next week.
The scope was literally still warm from being baked when I got there.
In short the scope is everything that you would expect from Premier Reticles.
I am by no means an optics expert but I'll provide you my first impressions from the purview of an average shooter who values top quality optics.
The version I looked at had the Gen II lit reticle and since it is the Hunter model, it had the covered turrets. The finish and smoothness of the adjustment knobs was outstanding and the optics are crystal clear. While I was there, it was placed on a specialized device which simulates looking at a target at 1000 meters and the elevation and windage adjustments were extremely precise when I turned them. The turrets under the caps are what you would expect on a hunting rifle. The movements were precise but don't have the tactile feel or audible "click" as do the target scopes. It was very quite which is preferred by many for a hunting rifle. I was told the range of elevation was 17 mil. and a single revolution gives you 6 mil. of movement (as best I can remember). The scope itself is noticeably slimmer and lighter than the full sized Heritage model but is by no means a wimpy scope. It looks and feels like a Premier Reticles scope which is a compliment. Again, the optics were simply outstanding.
The Hunter model will be at the SHOT show next week for examination. What won't be at the show however is the other new model which is effectively the exact same scope only the turrets will be the tactical style vice the covered hunter style. This version will be called the "Light Tactical" model.
Now on this subject: Paul and Chris (Thomas) are still debating on exactly how to equip this model and to that end, would like input from the Hide forum.
They apparently envision a small diameter but taller elevation turret on top but aren't settled on the windage turret. Whether to make it a tactical/target style or a smaller perhaps capped like the hunter model.
I won't say that the majority rules here, but they are clearly interested in the opinions of the customer so please chime in. Paul said they would monitor this forum for input.
Finally, just have to comment on quality control at the PR facility. These things are manufactured, assembled, tested and certified entirely in a clean room environment and for some of the operations a clean room, within a clean room. No short cuts here.
Again, just the impressions of a picky consumer but I WILL get one of these scopes. Sorry to drag on so far but I thought this might be of interest to the Hide membership.
