Looking for some input from you guys that have previously sold or bought used brass from the PX section. I am having a custom 6.5 CM built and am looking to move on from my Remington Gen 2 5-R in 260. I've got 300 pcs of 1x (some 2x) fired Lapua brass and a few die sets that I'd like to sell as part of a package deal with the rifle. On the other hand, I often see in the PX section many times members don't want the rifle but just want the brass and possibly the reloading dies. However the brass is currently in several different stages.

For example:
  • 175 pcs has been primed (GM210M), and neck sized and is ready to reload.
  • 75 pcs that have been fired and still have the spent primers.
  • 50 pcs currently loaded up for load development that I'm no longer going to carry out so I was going to pull the bullets and recover the powder.
  • All brass is marked with # of firings and separated by lot numbers.
So for you guys that have sold brass in the past or for those looking to buy 1x or 2x fired brass, if I were to end up selling the brass separately, here are my questions:
  1. What state/condition is most appealing for perspective buyers?
  2. Can you ship brass that is already primed if that is what the buyer wanted?
Thanks in advance for the input fellas.

1. I would like all of my brass to be at the same stage, ideally de-primed, cleaned, annealed and ready for FL sizing for my chamber. Sounds like you should be able to do this easily with the 75pc lot.

2. Your other two lots are going to require a bit of work before shipping, I believe. I'm assuming you don't have any type of FFL license, so manufacturing and selling homemade ammo would be a no go. That means your 50pc would need to be deconstructed prior to sale. I'm not 100% but I'm pretty sure your 175pc would need to be shipped ground and with a HAZMAT fee in order to get the ORD sticker. http://forum.accurateshooter.com/threads/mailing-shipping-primed-brass-the-regs-and-the-law.3812580/

Good luck!

Good call on the FFL, I completely spaced and was only considering the HAZMAT part of it. I just hated the thought of wasting all those Federal GM210M primers after they were so hard to find in the first place.

Thanks for the input Lonestar! I guess either way (brass only or w/rifle) FL sized, deprimed, clean brass ready to reload should appeal to the masses.

an FFL has nothing to do with ammo/primed brass. you just can't ship that stuff is all so you have to deprime it.

I personally don't like brass touched when I buy used brass. case headspace is different for every rifle. I prefer to size me brass to the specs foe my rifle. but that's just me

Padom, I agree about the FL sizing for an individual rifle. Did you read my post about shipping primed brass? Seems like it might be possible if you avoid USPS.

For the record, I'm pretty sure you need an FFL type 6 (?) in order to manufacture and sell ammo.

yes you can ship but the hazmat ordeal will be cheaper and easier to just remove the primers.

You do need a specific FFL to manufacture and sell ammunition for profit or livelihood. in other words, poeple doing it regularly or as a business. you don't need an FFL to sell reloads to someone that your trying to get rid of or including with a rifle. on the other hand I would never sell reloads as you open yourself up to liability if your reload goes boom and hurts someone.
