Presses for PRS reloading

A myriad of presses will accomplish that. The cartridge you mention, method of sizing and seating are die-dependent, not press.

At a high level, start with deciding if you want a single stage (ex. RCBS Rock Chucker, Forster Co-Ax) or progressive press (ex. Dillon 550B).

What’s PRS reloading? I’ve never heard of such a thing

Oh that’s neat. It requires a special type of reloading?

It ain't the same as loading 223 on my Dillon XL650 for plinking.

Actually, lots of guys I know load PRS ammo on Dillon 650, they just weigh the powder charges separately.

To answer your question seriously, to me PRS reloading = both reasonably accurate long range match quality ammo AND higher volume of reloading. My solution is to load on a Dillon progressive press. Trainer ammo full progressive on a Dillon 1050, match ammo on a DIllon 550.

Do some searching on this site for varying threads on how to load precision ammo on a DIllon, lots of info available which we don't need to rehash in a new thread.

Mainly you have to just hold a pillow under your arm for support while you pull the press handle. That and wear tactical kneepads.

Good enough for me. I have a Dillon RL550B

Some light reading for you...

Your precision rifle will tell us what type of handloading will best suit your needs.
Are you having a 338 RUM built up by a smith or are you buying an out of the box rifle?
I think it would be unfair to recommend a level of handloading and thus what type of press to use until we know what type of rifle you have.

Ordinary ammunition, loaded with ordinary dies, on an ordinary press would not fully utilize the accuracy potential of a custom rifle.
Like wise, benchrest quality ammunition loaded on benchrest standard equipment, will be wasted on a factory rifle.
Having said that i load all my ammo to benchrest standards whether its one of my custom rifles or one of my factory rifles.

Most guys hand loading for PRS would likely us a Forster CO-AX. Good luck finding one. When you do, don't hem and haw over the price, just buy it. Or backorder one from you favorite vendor who carries it.

Granted, I don't compete, but my Lee turret press routinely loads single digit SD and half MOA with Lee and hornady dies. I weigh all charges with an RCBS charge master.

Lee turret with Lee, Redding and Forster dies and Hornandy LNL

This. I just "upgraded" from my Lee Turret to a used Dillon RL450 ?
I’m thinking of doing the same.
Probably a used 550.

Mainly just to make 223 and pistol a bit faster.

I use a Co-Ax, but it’s no faster than any other single stage press out there. I save time with a F&D Auto-trickler, Bench source annelaer, and soon to be Giraud case trimmer.

The Dillon is interesting, and a buddy is starting down that path as we speak. I’ll keep and eye on his results and let him guinea pig it.

It's tough to argue with. 400 pieces of Dasher brass sized in under a half hour, headspace +/- a half thou, runout < 1 thou. :)
