Times are a little slower on Coyote traffic . Pretty clear all the Females are den-up now & popping-out or getting close to popping Pups . & all the coyotes I have shot the past couple weeks have all been Male & they are out running hard right now.
Been after these 2 guys for long time, well over a year . I know these 2 males that I seen numerous times and always hunting & working together & they have always been real tight in there travel & patterns every time I watched them .
2 good size males (probably) 2 brothers of same litter . Real smart & every time I seen them I was never able to get a solid shot at them . They mainly hunt, run & breed a farm acreage of about 500+ Acres plus travel/run the nearby fields & farms houses .
I know there main hunting & travel territory . I have set-up & called several times for these 2 . Seen them, called them, & head them communicate to each other but they were always on top of there game & always came in area I been set-up real fast, slipped-in seen me or sniffed me out, or things just never felt just right for them to commit . Those 2 coyotes have given me half-assed shots on them about 2 or 3 times but I refused to take it & dirty-up the area & make it worse next time out .
So I been waiting almost a month to give them another try from the last time they skunked me . Last night, about 37 deg. & slight drizzle & just a sliver of Moon . I went out after 22:00 & setup by a tractor that was parked next to a fresh plowed section next to one of there travel routes & did a few calls & worked a spot for almost 2 hours . Next time I looked @ the time it was almost 01:00 & decided to move-on . So I did one more call & bagged all my gear except for my Rifle on the Tri-pod .
Then I heard those 2 bark & yelp to each other & I knew they made a decision and were about to come-in for a quick search of my location . This one came-in & did a arcing circle about 100+ yards out threw a strawberry field . Then turned 90-right & trotted about out to about 150 yard & decided to stop . I think stopped for just a quick look for running buddy's position & that was all the mistake I needed .
