Having had the chance to thoroughly test a PR Heritage 5-25-- I am happy to report back that this is one HELLUVA scope. DISCLAIMER--No I am not an operator, and THANK GOD I don't do this stuff for a living!
Having just shot during both weekends at ASC and the train-up with Flea, I cranked the heck out of the knobs and held-over and milled more in 4 3 days then most guys do in a year or two.
The scope took everything I could throw at it without so much as a hiccup. Tracked perfectly and milled close enough for me to get first round hits at over 800 yards using my range estimates and G7 based ballistic data.
The Glass-- SUPERB! I have a comparable S & B 5-25, and side-by-side IMO the PRH gets the nod in clarity--but both are fantastic. Where the PRH shines is at both low and high magnification. While the S & B tends to lose a tiny bit of clarity at max and gets the annoying tunnel vision at low power-- THE PRH DOES NOT SUFFER THESE FLAWS! At ASC you are forced to crank down the power to find a tiny plate in a massive hillside, then crank it up to actually mill and shoot it. The clear glass through the entire power range made this a breeze.
Knobs- My first impression was that the elevation knob was WAY too mushy. I was right. When I called Jerry R at PR about this, he had me send it back for a look-see. That was monday. Today is friday and the scope is back and the clicks are now like snapping glass rods! Problem solved and the same CS I've come to expect from PR. While the S & B still gets a slight nod re: the clicks--it ain't a $1000 nod!
Tracking- Absolutely flawless. Cranked, held and milled over 250 shots without any issue whatsoever. As soon as I don't have a match to shoot--I'll give it a box test...IME both scopes track equally well.
Durability-- I beat the living crap out of this scope. From hours of gravity defying rain, to a 20 yard cow poop luge ride--to a black-flip off a quad--this scope took everything mother nature and I could dish out. There is not even a mark in the finish!!! The scope is a watertight tank and the finish bullet-proof!
I still don't like the ocular cover, but now with the installation of a BC, that too is solved.
Bottom line--If you are in the market for high end glass you owe it to yourself to check out the Heritage. Call Scott at Liberty and order one up.
