I just picked up a 16" PWS upper from a member here and wanted to share my experience. I had heard about the long stroke vs the short stroke and always had read nothing but great reviews about PWS and decided to take a chance. The system is "AK47" like with the rod securely attached to the carrier with the piston also attached to the rod and a floating piston.
The system basically essentially moves at one without parts banging to each other and eliminates the carrier tilt and carrier bounce. I put a CMR 1-4x scope with a Burris mount and took it to the range couple of days ago for testing. I was sighted in at 100yards with 4 shots. The rifle operates very smoothly. I have the PWS brake on my other ARs which i love but the feel of this action is completely different. I really am not technical enough to describe it but i can just say it it is smoother with a perceived reduced recoil impulse.
The rifle was very accurate. At 100yards i fired an entire magazine prone resting on bags and they were all ~1.5-2" and this was with 55gr Russian Brown Bear ammo. I am positive that with match grade ammo, and even better glass, and better trigger (the milspec i have in this lower) that group will tighten up. I shot about 200 rounds and fed it everything i could from steel case russian variety to PMC bronze, to PPU to Federal XM193 and there was not a single hick up.
After coming home i took the rifle apart for inspection and the bolt/carrier look clean like they just came out of the factory. There is not even a residue on them. I tried to get a couple of close up shots so you guys can see. I did not wipe these down at all. I never oiled the bolt cause i wanted to see functionality completely dry and when you run your hand on the bolt it is still squeaky clean. Needless to say i am very impressed with this rifle and the thought that PWS put in designing this system. Here are a few pics :
