Illinois Democratic Gov. JB Pritzker bashed President Trump's executive order ending birthright citizenship for children of illegal immigrants.

"That’s unconstitutional. We will not follow an unconstitutional order," Pritzker told reporters on Monday while speaking at an unrelated event, Politico reported.

Trump's order, "Protecting the Meaning and Value of American Citizenship," asserts that the 14th Amendment of the Constitution does not automatically confer American citizenship to individuals who are born within the United States.

The amendment states: "All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside."

Some legal experts have said that such a move is a constitutional change and cannot be made by executive order. The move will almost certainly face a challenge in court from civil rights groups and immigration activists.

Trump advisers and some conservative legal scholars have previously argued that the idea of giving birthright citizenship to children of illegal immigrants is based on a misreading of the amendment.

I thought it was designed to allow citizenship for any kids born here by legal parents.

It wasn't intended to ship 8 month pregnant women across the border illegally and create new citizens.

We should be passing a law that says you can be a legal citizen if you are born here and at least one of your parents is a legal citizen.
 
I thought it was designed to allow citizenship for any kids born here by legal parents.

I'm not sure about that, that free'd slaves weren't citizens. Free'd slaves were eventually granted the right to vote.

As much as I hate compromising with lefties ( not saying you are by the way), I’d be ok with this. Even if your parents are both legal immigrants. But unless one parent was a citizen by the time you turned 18, military service or the kid applies just like everyone else.

If this means turning these people away at ER rooms and soup kitchens so be it.Also none of these kids should be allowed in public schools.Make this country so unbearable for them they will choose going home to the cartels.

Pass a law that violates the constitution? Be as useful as an EO. Either the constitution needs changed, or the definitions within. Congressional action needed.

To me, not that anyone cares, that amendment assumes the parents are legal citizens as it was actually illegal to enter illegally. Where as now it’s still technically illegal, but it’s not viewed the same way as other illegal activities such as killing someone. This is what happens when the laws are not enforced; anarchy.

So, by that premise, if we were to have been invaded in WWII by say the Germans and Japs and their soldiers brought their wives or raped our women, which would have happened, would the resulting kids be automatic citizens?

Because the U.S. was allowed to be invaded by hostile countries during the Biden takeover.

Born here to foreign parents... Fine. You have a birth certificate. Now back to your country until you turn 18. And you can provide your legit paperwork. NOT bringing in your entire extended family, etc.

But IMHO, it seems that birthright citizenship is NOT a thing... or not what the left claims it is. (surprise).

So adios birth tourism scum-weasels. Heck, pretty easy to spot the baby bulge at the border. No entrance for third trimester folks without significant financial proof and roots in their own community. In other words... no POS freeloaders looking for a meal ticket and a birth certificate.

No, because then children of foreign diplomats will be citizens. That is not what the framers of the 14th Amandment intended. It is plain as day in the congressional record. Now if you’re here legally, like you emigrated and are applying for citizenship, then fine.

So, there’s literally nothing for him to enforce or not enforce as it’s not part of their authority as a state.
