Pro Varmint stock vs Varmint Precision Trainer stock

stocks do play a role in the accuracy of the rifle. speaking just of those 2, from the factory the pro varmint does not have pillar bedding, the manners does. the big thing to take into consideration is comfort getting behind the stock and the way it feels. i have a 455 pro varmint and a 457 VPT. the feel of the 2 stocks to me is night and day. i get a MUCH better fit with the VPT. it has a bigger grip and better palm swell. most importantly there is a shelf to float your thumb. it allows me to get consistent hand placement every time. repeat-ability and consistency is a big part of accuracy. i hope this makes sense. i'm sure someone else can come along and say it more concisely.

I totally understand what you're saying about fitting behind the rifle.. it was that way with my Kidd 1022.. I had it in a Magpul Hunter stock and it was good..but when I put the action into a Victor Titan stock it became a tack driver.. Comfort, Control and Consistent !!
I've been looking at different chassis, but definitely prefer a stock over a chassis.. looks like I'll be getting a 457 VPT in the near future..
Thanks for the input !!

glad to help. hope you enjoy it. get the area 419 bolt handle though. it helps immensely.
I did get the Area 419 bolt handle.. a lot better than the OEM one.. I also purchased the Area 419 scope rail.. In fact I have two of them.. The first one was a loose fit and kept moving on me.. Contacted Area 419 and they sent me out a replacement.. this one still moved a little also.. but got it to work..so far.. GREAT customer service though

Word is the KRG Bravo should be out by the end of November or early December. I went with a 457 pro Varmint and am just waiting on the KRG. FWIW my 457 shoots just as well as friends 457 VPT.

I have a stock Pro Varmint with the 16 1/2 barrel. Here is a 6x5 I shot with SK plus. I think it would probably shoot better with center x. I’ll Ben the first to admit I’m not a group shooter. I don’t take my time and crank of my shots way to fast so the two larger groups are no fault of the rifle I don’t think.

That's some pretty good groups there Sir !!! I'll say your rifle shoots 'Lights Out" !! Is that at 50 yards ?

Yes, that’s at 50 yards. Like I said though I honestly think the rifle is capable of shooting better. It shoots anything Lapua makes really well so far. I haven’t shot groups with rifle match or pistol match at 50 yards but they both seemed to shoot right around .75 at 100 yards. However the rifle does not seem to like Eley ammo. It still stays under 1/2” at 50 but it just isnt as consistent with eley ammo.

How much does a stock really play into the accuracy of a rifle ? Comparing the above 2 stocks..

My personal experience.....

Bought a new to me rifle and, with factory tupperware, was at best a 1.5 moa rifle. Switched out stock to a Boyd's At-One Thumbhole and suddenly the rifle is a 1/4 moa rifle at 200 yards, zero distance. The only other mod was the addition of a Timney trigger.

He isn’t talking about a Tupperware stock though. He is talking about a Boyd’s Pro Varmint stock vs a Manners stock. Based on what I have seen the only real difference will be the feel. The Manners will just be a lot more comfortable. Of course if you wait a few weeks and get a KRG Bravo. I’m bias though. I’m a huge fan of the KRG chassis. I basically have all my match bolt rifles in a KRG chassis. I just find them incredibly comfortable to shoot Andy very versatile.
